When we began planning our wedding, we weren't going to go with a videographer, but changed our minds as time progressed. We haven't received our wedding video yet, but I am already so glad that we went ahead and booked a videographer and that we went with Dirk! We never actually met with Dirk prior to the wedding, but he was great communicating via email. We met Dirk at the wedding and he was the most friendly guy! He filmed for 6 hours and I swear I never saw him! He was so great at being present to film, but not being in the way. It was just a pleasure to work with him.

Two days after the wedding, we received an email from Dirk with the link to our wedding video 4 minute trailer. That was the coolest thing to see! I still watch it over and over again! We cannot wait to get our wedding video. If it's anywhere near the quality of our trailer, it's going to be amazing!

My husband and I debated for months over whether to stretch our budget for a videographer. We weren't interested in a crew following us as we got dressed. We just wanted a recording of our ceremony and highlights of our reception.

In the end, I narrowed the choice down to four vendors and screened their sample reels online for my film-buff hubby. He immediately chose Dirk for his great eye, and we hired him about 10 days before the wedding. I'm so glad that we did.

Dirk charged us $800 in advance for three hours of edited footage, which he shot personally. A second stationary camera captured close-ups and all the details we would have forgotten from the ceremony if we'd relied on photos alone -- my husband’s sniffles, the rabbi's gentle jokes and our friends' musical blessings. Equally important, Dirk was the only person who got a good shot of my entrance where I wasn't looking down or licking my lips! I was thrilled to see the screen cap on our DVD cover.

We were moved at how Dirk incorporated the Jewish date and quotes from our program into the introduction. We thought that was a very a thoughtful touch. He also recorded personal greetings from many of our guests, including my four bridesmaids. It was wonderful to relive everyone's toasts and the hilarious energy of the horah at the reception. He also stayed longer to shoot our cake-cutting, which we really appreciated.

Dirk’s quote included three mics to capture ceremony audio, and two completed DVDs/1 Blu-Ray. In the end, he sent us two extra DVDs (one copy to each set of parents) and an extra Blue-Ray. The DVDs included a personalized color photo cover, menu, chapters and sound editing. Dirk did not charge us for mileage, although he drove down the night before from his home near Bakersfield.

Dirk was very responsive before the wedding and he was kind enough to post our four-minute highlights video online within a couple days of our wedding. Beautifully shot and edited, it was a thrill to watch at the hotel on our honeymoon. It was also easy to send a link to the clip to our family and friends, including those who were unable to attend.

A couple caveats: when we hired him, Dirk told me we could expect the final DVD in six weeks. His contract states roughly the same terms. When six weeks came and went, I emailed Dirk and received a vague reply that he'd start on our DVD after wrapping up a couple of earlier projects. Naturally, that made me nervous. After that, future emails did not receive a response, which increased my sense of panic.

When I queried other brides on this site who'd used him, however, I was told that they received their videos in three to four months. As it turned out, we received our DVD exactly 12 weeks after our wedding. I'd encourage you to use Dirk, just know that it will likely take 12 to 16 weeks before you receive the final package.

Finally, you may wish to consider hiring a two-person video crew to capture reaction shots to reception speeches or presentations during the ceremony. When my husband toasted me, for example, it would have been nice to see my teary response – or watch us laughing during the best man’s and maid of honor’s speeches.

Most of Dirk’s camerawork during toasts and other action was shot either head-on or from the side only. A second camera would allow for cut-in shots and other editing. This will add to the price, of course, so it depends on your budget and priorities. Given our constraints, I thought that Dirk did a fine job.

My wedding was a very complicated one to pull off because we had two ceremonies in one day with entertainment in-between. My husband is Hindu and I am Christian, so you can see that there was plenty of planning and room for plenty to go wrong. However, with that being said, I have to tell you that Angelica did an EXCELLENT job pulling the whole thing together!

Angelica was my saving grace through the entire process. She helped me with everything from the decorating, the food and the planning of the entire day (which was ALL day, and night). She made all of my husband's Indian relatives and mine feel very comfortable and made the entire day run so smoothly. I honestly wouldn't have changed anything that day. My guests had a wonderful time, the venue was beautiful and the events of the day ran together seamlessly.

We had our wedding at an organic and "green" outside restaurant, so everything was naturally green throughout the venue. The ceremonies and reception were all at the same place.

I had so many compliments on the entire day. Many of my guests had said it was the most beautiful wedding they had ever been to. My indian guests thought that the indian food was some of the best they had tasted - which says a LOT! Angelica has such a sophisticated, yet graceful way about her that she was able to direct my guests throughout the day and it came across so beautifully - I believe that nobody else could have done the job she did.

With that said, I do believe that if you choose to hire Angelica it would be one of the best decisions you could make. I (just like many brides) felt very nervous and stressed at times with so much to do and just calling her to talk about things made everything feel easier. She was able to calm me and come up with great ideas and solutions. She was everything I could have asked for in a planner and much much more.

I wish you the best of luck with your wedding. I am sure if you are going to use Angelica it will be beautiful!

“ NWR: Are You Going To Charlie Sheen Night? ”

In what is sure to be the first of many among minor league teams, the ECHL’s Bakersfield Condors have announced that their March 12 game against the Idaho Steelheads will be “Charlie Sheen Night” at Rabobank Arena.

Sure, a minor league baseball team pulling off this stunt would have been more apropos, but the Condors’ promotional geniuses understand that timing is everything. Might as well jump on the Charlie Sheen crazy train and ride it to profitville.

The Bakersfield organization has even reached out to Sheen in the hopes that he would join in on the fun, but so far they’ve heard nothing from Sheen’s camp. They even scheduled “Charlie Sheen Night” to coincide with St. Patrick’s Day festivities, for obvious reasons.

“We picked this date for the Charlie Sheen Night because we figured St. Patrick’s Day was a Holiday that Charlie enjoyed celebrating,” said Condors President Matthew Riley. “We would invite him come up to the game and participate in a ceremonial puck drop and just have fun for the night with our fans. We’ll even give him the ticket special for dressing up like himself.”

Don’t give up hope just yet Mr. Riley. Charlie Sheen is such a loose cannon, there’s a good chance he shows up for his special night, and more than likely dons some hockey equipment and skates for the Condors. Having Adonis DNA and tiger’s blood will help.

Here’s what fans can expect on “Charlie Sheen Night”…

  • Wear a fedora, or dress like any Charlie Sheen movie character and receive admission for two and a half bucks ($2.50).
  • Bring a clean drug test and receive free admission.
  • 2-for-1 Tiger Blood Icees and snow cones for the kids.
  • The first 1,000 males will receive a Charlie Sheen face on a stick mask.click here
Bakersfield Condors photo 2760363-2
  • Follow the Condors on twitter and we’re confident you won’t be nearly as entertained as if you followed Charlie Sheen on twitter. However, the Condors are inviting everyone to sign up to follow the Condors on twitter (http://twitter.com/condors), and if we beat Charlie’s Guinness World Record of reaching one million followers in less than 25 hours and 17 minutes, we’ll let Charlie rename the team, as he seems to have a lot of creative ideas lately.
  • Bring $2 million (reportedly as much as Charlie doesn’t earn with each cancelled episode) and you can own the Condors!
  • Charlie’s dubbed “Goddesses” (Natalie Kenly and Rachel Oberlin) have been named as honorary captains for the game. We’re guessing the Steelheads won’t mind if they get to hang out on the bench.
  • A rock band from Mars will play in front of the arena on the plaza before the game.
  • Before this game, the Condors aren’t going to practice, attempting to channel Sheen’s no-rehearsal-required spirit. After all, to quote the great Allen Iverson, “We’re talkin’ about practice?!”

Of course, in keeping with the whole Charlie Sheen theme, the Condors plan on “winning” the game. Judging by that list above, it seems to me they already have.click here Bakersfield Condors photo 2760363-3

“ Old Hollywood Glamour Veil ”

As most of you know, that's the theme we have for our wedding.  My question is, what kind of veil does one wear for this?  I'm having a bride brain fart right now and don't know.  Should I do bubble?  Haute couture (i.e. Toni Federici style)? or just plain?  I'm kind of stumped.  Ideas please!!!

Since I have so many friends scattered all over this country, we are having two bridal showers.  One in Arizona and the other one here at a Museum in Bakersfield.  Most of my fiance's family lives in Bakersfield and mine in AZ.  Sooo...after having talked with my MOH we came up with a fun theme for the one in Bakersfield.....The Mad Hatter Tea Party!  I simply love the idea and found photos on Project Wedding and other websites!

“ {The Surprise Proposal} ” by jenkt

During this summer I had demanded requested that my boyfriend plan a vacation for Labor Day Weekend. He eventually told me that he had something planned and that we would need to leave Orange County Saturday morning. I had NO idea where we were headed. Prior to that weekend, I had written a checklist of all the articles of clothing a girl could possibly consider packing and had him fill in the quantity of each item. I found this a helpful guide, and doubled the quantity of every outfit (tee-hee). I assumed we were staying around SoCal, but imagine my surprise when we KEPT driving on 5-north past Valencia. Were we headed to Bakersfield? nope kept driving.. Harris Ranch?? nope, why would we end up there; kept driving. Soon we were passing through Fresno. I was so baffled. Finally we ended up in the East Bay Area- The 510. We kept driving... All the way to San Francisco via the Bay Bridge (and plenty of inbound traffic). My boyfriend had gotten tickets for the Giants Vs. Diamondbacks ballgame at AT&T Park! This was the best surprise as I am a HUGE Giants fan and Tim Lincecum was pitching! The only problem was I sadly did not pack a single item of clothing from my entire trove of Giants Fan Gear :( Bummer.. So the BF bought me something...

 The Surprise Proposal photo 1

The best part of the Game (aside from the Garlic Fries and beer that is "cheap" compared to any SoCal sports arena) was one of my BFFs was at the game only a few sections away, so we got to see each other!

After the game, we continued on to the next part of the Surprise. We left the city and travelled across the Bay Bridge. We were headed to Napa! BF knew that I had never been. By the time we arrived at our hotel, it was time to head off to sleep. BF had informed me we had an early morning flight and we needed to wake up at 5am. But where were we going?!

The next morning, while it was still crisp outside before the sun had made its debut for the day, we ended up going for a Hot Air Balloon tour (our early morning "flight") of wine country! The views were spectacular, and I was pretty delirious as I wondered whether I was really up there!

 The Surprise Proposal photo 2

Soon enough we were back on land.  After a much needed power nap, we took off ready for Wine Tasting. We toured Sterling Vineyards (a-must-see) and Beaulieu Vineyards (aka "BV") where we opted for the Georges de Latour reserve room and sampled four exquisite wines that typically cost over $100/bottle.

The Surprise Proposal photo 3

We finished and returned to the hotel in time to get ready for dinner. BF had told me to pack a dress for dinner that night. Obviously I did what any girl would do and packed two =P  After deciding on which to wear, we headed out to dinner. Again, I was completely in the dark as to where the next destination would be. In retrospect, my guesses were so narrow in scope.  On my mind: Bouchon? Morimoto?? Dare I say it: French Laundry?! Nope. We ended up back in the City at Gary Danko.  The category "Fine Dining" does this place no justice. Everything here surpassed my expectations.  We had a cozy little booth in the corner of one of the rooms. The ambience was perfect, and there was just enough space between the booths near us to give us all our privacy. All of the waitstaff was excellent and I enjoyed the little extras the chef kept sending out (FYI- I highly recommend the Lobster Risotto off the appetizer menu). After we had ordered, we unexpectedly received a tasting of soup compliments of the chef.  After our desserts were brought out, an additional little platter full of mini desserts were sent out- again compliments of the chef.  After we ate our fill, the BF leisurely paid the bill. My heart slowly began to sink... no ring!

But then, a wait staff member that had not serviced our table approached with "one final surprise." My heart sprung back to life and I could feel it flutter increasingly faster. My body began to shake. The dish that was brought out was a white oval ceramic dish with a matching cover which was resting on the scattered red rose petals lining the perimeter of the dish. BF played innocent. "Hmm what's this?" he said as the cover was lifted to reveal a royal blue box wrapped with a white gauzy bow.

BF might have been nervous, but I didn't notice. He opened the box. All I saw were magnificent sparkles.

BF asked me "Will You Marry Me?" as he extracted the Ring out of the box.

My response? "Wait, you weren't looking in my eyes. Ask me again."

(Looking at me) "Will you marry me?"

"Tell me WHY I should marry you."

"Because you want to."  (Can you believe this guy?! haha)

After he spouted off some reasons, I asked him to tell me one more time, and then I said

"YES"

He slipped the ring on my finger.

 The Surprise Proposal photo 4

I noticed it was the original setting that I had chosen about 4 years ago when we had previously dated. The ring looked so much more radiant with its round cut center stone set in it. I was still shaking, but lucid enough to realize many of the restaurant patrons were clapping. All of the wait staff who had been serving our table made a point to Congratulate us. I was on Cloud 9... and forgot to take a picture at the restaurant.

In summary, FI planned the entire weekend perfectly. He did such a great job with all of the many surprises and even a better job picking out the diamond. As a token of my affection, I gave him a ring too:

The Surprise Proposal photo 5

Now we are slowly starting to plan our wedding for the Summer of 2012. We don't have a venue or a date yet, but we are excited to begin our lives together ^_^
