We met on the softball field...believe it or not in Feb. 2008. We had co-ed practice, and our coach wanted to have a scrimmage against an all men team that she knew. Well, Kevin played on the all men team. Some of our girls went with their team, and some of their guys mixed up with our team. Kevin just happened to be one of the guys that was chosen to play on our team. I was playing in right field. He was playing right center, and my cousin, Teleisha, was playing left center. Well, you all know Kevin, so you know the first thing he did, right? Talked! Talked! Talked! Lol. I was quiet. I didn't say too much to him, but my cousin kept the conversation going. What was I doing? Well, I was in my own little world in right field. After the game was over, our coach still held practice. Kevin's men team left...at least that's what I thought. I know we practiced for an hour and a half at least after the scrimmage. When practice was over, Kevin and some of his friends were still in the parking lot. I rode to practice with my cousin that day. So, as we were walking to our car Kevin begin to yell. He was asking us to come over and hang out with them. He said, "We have plenty of things to drink...water, gatorade, or whatever you want." I tried to ignore him, but Teleisha was like, "Let's go...we won't stay long." So, I was like, "Okay..." So, we went over and talk to them. They were asking us what our names were, where we were from, etc. Then, we begin talking about our planned trip to Miami. Kevin was like, "Miami? I have a homeboy that lives in Miami. He'll look out for you all." At that moment, he actually called his friend and told him we were coming down, and he wanted him to look out for us. He asked for our phone numbers. My cousin, Teleisha, gave him her number. I was trying to remember how he winded up with my number. So, when I was talking to my cousin the other day, she reminded me that Kevin told us they were trying to start a women's softball team and wanted to know if we would play. Are you kidding me? As much as I love playing softball, I think Kevin already knew the answer to that. So, I gave him my number. As soon as we left the parking lot, he called my cell.
We spoke a few times "off and on" on the phone, but we went a little while without talking to each other. The next thing I knew, we were talking on the phone almost every day. He tried to come over to visit for almost 2 months straight, but I never let him. I didn't feel like I knew him well enough for him to be coming over to visit. So, we just continued to talk on the phone, become friends, and get to know each other. As we were getting to know each other, one of the first things he told me was that he had two children. Then, he topped the cake when he said that they were both females and teenagers. I was like, "OH NO!" The first thing I thought was...."It's not going to work. He has two girls. What happens if they don't like me? What type of relationship does he have with their mothers? For example, how well does he get along with their mothers? How well do their mothers get along with other females in his life?" I started thinking a million things! However, for some reason, I was still willing to get to know him. As, I got to know him, I couldn't believe how much we had in common. He was surprised too. We eventually started dating, and the time came for me to meet his family. Was I nervous? Very! I met his Uncle Fred and Aunt Betty first. They were really nice people. One of the first questions his uncle asked was, "Have you met the rest of the family?" I was like, "Not yet..." He said, "Oh boy...just wait until you meet the rest of them." I remained calm, but it actually made me a little nervous when he made that statement. Anyway, to make a long story short, I finally met the rest of his family including his daughters. His family is great! I absolutely adore his children! They are the greatest, and I treat them as if they were my own! As for Kevin, I absolutely love him, and I can't wait to be his wife.
