1st WR dream last night! (& question RE dress shopping)

And boy was it weird!!

Background:  Wedding Oct 19, 2013, we've only booked our venue and I'm gathering inspiration for decor, color etc.  I haven't been dress shopping yet but I've been watching all those tv shows (Say yes to the dress, Girl meets dress, Amsale girls etc.)

So in my dream, I go to the dress shop and the gal helping me is SUPER old (yet somehow had a supermodel body ROTFL).

I tell her that I have no idea what I want style wise but that my wedding is rustic, in Oct and the only thing I know I want is lace incorporated in one way or another because I'm going with a burlap and lace theme.

The first dress she brings me is a short lace dress that SHE tries on to model for me?  Um, okayyyyy

I tell her I don't want a short dress (I have thick legs and ankles IMO) and she proceeds to pull more short dresses.  I decide to humor her with the second dress and put it on, when I turn to look at myself in the mirror, my contacts get so dry that they literally pop out of my eyes, leaving me completely blind.

She tells me that it won't be a problem because she and my mom (who is waiting outside the room) will choose my dress for me.  (LOL)

From there I refuse to try on any more short dresses and ask her if I can go pull some dresses with her to give her a since of what is visually appealing to me. (which makes no sense, since I am blind now!)

We go out and there are only short dress and dresses that are pale pink and light blue.  So she says "Oh we are closing in 15 mins so they must have taken all the dresses to the cleaners.  Sorry."

And then I woke up.  So stinking weird!  I hope I have a better experience than this when I go!!

So now my question:

I'm sure all places have different policys but how did you pay for you dress when you found the right one?

Do most places allow payment plans?  (do you have to do a credit check? This is okay with me, I'm just curious)

Or do you pay all at once?  (Cash discounts available or can you negotiate the price a bit?)

Lol!!! Okay I loved your dream and we pray your consultant is not from your dream when the day really comes! :  )

I got my dress from David's Bridal but I went to other shops as well. They all had layaway but the layaway policies are different for each place, especially the smaller boutiques.  My dress was 399 on sale and I added a sash for 69.00 and I can't remember what was required to put down on it, but I know I put more than was required. They want you to pay at least every two weeks what you can but the dress had to be out of the layaway in two months.  Depending on where you go, the manager may be able to negotiate pricing, but it is usually not that much and they will give you a plethora of reasons why they can't go down on the price. No they do not do credit checks unless you apply for a cc with the store. David's Bridal always ask if you want this option especially if your dress has to be special ordered.

Wish you a great dress experience!

Oh man! I hate dreams in which I'm blind!! Lol. Your experience will hopefully be MUCH better than that!! :D

The bridal shop I went to required the deposit the day we placed the order (50%) of the cost. Then we payed the remainder of the price when I picked it up a few months later. We didn't really ask about other pricing options, but they were pretty adament about picking it up within a timely manner...which was a lil hard for me b/c I didn't live very close to where I bought it.

Most places are 50% down (before they order if for you) and 50% to pick up.

Sample dresses have to be paid upfront.

That was one hilarious dream. I was literally laughing out loud. I do hope your dress shopping experience is much better than your dream, which I'm sure it will be.

That is a funny dream!

At David's Bridal where I got my dress I had to put 15% down and pay it off within 60 days which was still a lot to pay but we made it happen, alterations though had to be paid day of appt.

That is quite the funny dream!!

I got my dress at a smaller place and they had me put 25% down and then I made payments as I could. They were very flexable with it.
