I'm 69% (love that the Kindle gives the percent of the book read!) done with my seond book. I'm going to keep track of my list here if that's okay with you ladies? I figure if anyone is looking for a new book having a list may help?

Start date: December 25

  1. Darkly Dreaming Dexter -Jeff Lindsay
  2. Dearly Devoted Dexter - Jeff Lindsay

I'm impressed - that's practically a book a week!

Every year I make sure to read at least 25 books that I don't teach (it doesn't count that I reread the same novels/plays/memoirs every semester with my students). I'll be honest, even for an English teacher, it's hard to find the time to read more than 25 new books! However, I will say that when I had the chance to relax on our HM, I started and finished four new books in eight days, so it can be done. Good luck to you!

As for the Dexter books, I can't wait to start them! DH bought me the second one by mistake, so I'm waiting to get my hands on the first. We've watched every episode of the series, but I still think the books will be great.

Right now I just finished Durable Goods by Elizabeth Berg (very quick read) and have been halfway through Julia Alvarez's In the Name of Salome for absolute years now. I seriously just can't finish this thing, so it sits on my nightstand day in and day out. I think my New Year's Resolution is to finally be finished with that dang book!

FCTF I was just talking to DH about this last night. I LOVE the Dexter show and think it might be one of the best shows ever. I explained to him the books so far are great. (I'm more into the second than the first) but the show is soooo good that I think if I never saw the show I would like the book more. If that makes sense?

I'm hoping to be able to do the 50 books, But I unexpedicaly decided to sign up for grad school. So if the open house goes well Saturday, I may be starting my first class Jan 17th. That might hinder my plans a bit. we'll see!

I have a few books like that and I don't know why it is. I have one that Pat let me borrow, I like it I just can't seem to finish it! I'll have to look up Durable Goods, a quick read might be good for 1 of 50!

I just finished Still Alice in less than 5 days.  DH told me I have to slow down, if I don't want to be buying too many new books between now and Maui (end of Feb).  I think after Maui I'm buying the iPad to use as an e-reader (I don't want an e-reader on the beach)!  Then I'll see how many I can tackle this year!

I might have to give these Dexter books a try!  I've never seen the show, so maybe it will be good if I don't have to compare?

Im up to the challenge! I have a kindle and an ipad I share with the FI, I found that I read much quicker on the kindle, probably however they make that screen work and look like a book. Plus I get distracted on the ipad since it has internet!!

Yea I definitely wouldnt bring an iPad on the beach. I know Maui is a bit safer than Antigua but on HM we constantly saw people leaving e-readers and tablets in their bags while they went for a swim, walk or a refill and I heard so many stories of missing articles! Plus the mixture of sand and salty air can't be good for electronics! I went to HI with my parents while I was in college and I read 8 books! I only brought 2 with me lol. My Dad had to keep finding me a book store. =P

Miss_oleander I never thought about that with an iPad but I would pribably have the same issue with distraction!

I just finished my second book! On to the third Dexter!

I am hoping to hit 50 books this year, but am not overly optimistic.

I have my Goodreads goal set at 45 books.

I am off to a good start.  I'm currently at 4 books read since I was able to get a couple read while on vacation in the rainy Dominican.

I find I read so much faster on my kindle than with traditional paperbacks.  It's sort of strange.  I loved having my kindle when on vacation because I had 5 or 6 books loaded an it added no extra weight to my suitcase.  Sweet!!!!

Cuteboy2me I totally agree, I feel like I've been reading faster on my kindle too...I wonder why that is?!Newhart books have you read so far? Any recommendations?

Ive just finished book number 3

Dexter in the Dark

Good read and I'm glad I kept up with the series. It's getting to be much different than the show and very interesting!

I'm taking a break from dexter now though before I burn myself out. On the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. I'm interested to see how long this will take me. It's a bit longer than the Dexter books. Plus I leave for Chicago Friday for work, and my online class starts Tuesday! Yikes this challenge is certainly going to be tough!

@nicoleleblanc - I found the first book in GWTDT series was a bit difficult at first (100-150 pages) and then it just took off.  The second and third book took no time at all.

How's everyonen doing with their goals?

I've just joined this website that keeps trach of my reads. http://www.goodreads.com/review/list/8447485-nicole The site's cool because it shows how much percent I've read and the percent behind I am too. Right now according to the site, I'm 4 books behind.

I've read 7 books so far (I should be finishing the 8th very soon). I'm a bit behind my goal but I expected that with the start of school.
