I guess I should clarify... the darker is two blocks darker on the paint chips... If that is techincally two shades darker IDK colors are wierd (as an architect I deal with this a lot at work, shades of colors are difficult and touchy)
But it will also depend on the color itself our colors were somewhat on the darker side so the change is a little more drastic.
I also picked the darker color first and went lighter for the rest of the room and the color just a shade darker than the lighter one used (hope that wasn't confusing) didn't have enough of a contrast for what I was looking for. So you may
need to look at it that way and look into both the next shade darker and the one after that just to get the contrast you are looking for. If you want it to be a suttle contrast then maybe the next shade darker will work and you won't need to
go two shades. Like I said before some colors the step from one to the next is a little more drastic than others.
Good Luck! and don't fear the accent walls! I've done then in quite a few rooms over the years (I don't have pictures of most though) I did a bedroom that had sage walls on majority of them and an accent wall of
cranberry/burgandy color. I also did a lighter beige than what is in that picture with a very dark moss/hunter green (it sorta looked like the army green, that's how dark it was)
I look at paint this way, it's paint and cheap in comparison to other home improvement finishes, try it and if it doesn't work out, change it! (that does only work if you don't mind painting though...)
Sorry I rambled there! :)
