Acupuncture?

I posted this on the TTC group but maybe it’s more suited in this group.

Has anyone tried acupuncture for fertility?  Did you see an acupuncturist that specialized in fertility or can you go to any acupuncturist?  My health insurance does cover acupuncture but only for pain, not for infertility.  And it seems like those that specialize in fertility is naturally much more expensive than those that market themselves as general acupuncturist.  Would love to hear others experiences. Thanks.

I've called a local practice around here for another condition but my insurance only covers for pain.  I think the price was $120 for consultation and first visit and maybe $65 for the next few treatments I think.  We are going to do our 3rd clomid IUI in June and injectible IUI's in July, August and Sept.  If those are unsuccessful I will be doing accupuncture before IVF.

I actually just had my first appointment a few days ago before my IUI.   I chickened out from the el cheapo one and met with a fertility specialist instead.  Cost was $100 for the first visit $85 for the following visits.  The acupuncturist was not super warm and friendly but she did take a lot of notes about my fertility history and other health issues.  I mean a lot of notes, two full pages worth.  So I guess that’s comforting.  Then she sent someone else to massage my back first followed by the actually acupuncture, which lasted about 45 mins.  She put what felt like 10 needles along my spine and maybe another four on my ankles and feet.  It pinched a little but afterwards I fell asleep.  When she woke me up she basically told me that what she did was nothing special or specific to fertility but a general procedure just to relieve my body from stress.  She would review my history again and would do some procedure after my IUI .

Honestly, I don’t know what to make of it.  I’m trying to remain positive about the experience but at the same time, it’s one of those things that if I don’t see the immediate effects, I have doubts on it.  I’m going to see her again tomorrow so we shall see.
