Anyone whose doing DIY invites - how are you addressing your envelopes? For my STD's I printed them, and it took forever having to change each address and then hand feeding the envelopes in the printer, and I was never that pleased about how they looked... I am starting to get stuff together for my invites and am debating if I should do this printing thing again, or hand address each? I would love to learn calligraphy and do them! Because I do not want to pay to have them done by calligrapher... What do you guys think?

I am having mine printed at a local stationary. $30 for 50.

I hand-addressed the envelopes in my most beautiful hand-writing. I practiced a little before I started but I never learned calligraphy. What I did was I chose a pretty font in MS Word that looks like a calligrapher's font (e.g. English111 VivaceBT) and I imitated that!

I just learned calligraphy and I love love it! I already had natural handwriting that was very similar to traditional English Roundhand so it was pretty easy for me to pick up, also because I had used a fountain pen growing up. If it doesn't come easily to you, I would be happy to help!

I used a cursive font on our home printer. Even if I practice, my handwriting will not be neat!!

We printed them with Feel Script font on our computer. My FI created a template for them (I have it if you want to download it) and we didn't have to feed the envelopes, we just left them where they were and tested it out a few times on blank paper to insure it was lined up right, and then just printed.

You could do a mail merge, too.

I have access to a vintage, cursive typewriter or I am considering printing myself

Champagne- are you starting your calligraphy business? ; )
we'd all love to see a sample!

I've heard of printing them out in a super light color (like light gray) and then going over them in ink--looks handwritten but has the neatness of printing :)

I would love to hand write the addresses for ours, but our invites are being printed back home, and there's no sense in shipping them back and forth just so I can write them out.

Champagne - I'd love to see a sample too haha =)

What type of pen did you use? Did you actually use a fountain pen? I probably would just use a nice black sharpie? Or maybe theres something else thats better... I will have dark red envelopes so need something bold enough to show. I think I will do some practice, and I think even if its not perfect it just shows that it was handwritten. All the more thought going into each invitation =). I think I will find a font I like and practice to write like it. I teach and have the summer partially off (besides summer school) so I can take lots of time to learn a new handwritting!

Another question... how long before wedding do people typically send out invites? My wedding is Sep 27th, and I am hoping to have the RSVP date early Sep, sometime between the 1st and 6th of Sep. But when should I have the invites finished and ready to mail by? Im guessing mid July?
