Affordable big centerpieces

Ah after finally picking a site, and signing papers - I'm stuck. They have tables for 10, big big round tables. The floral centerpieces I was planning on will not do because the urns are just not big enough...

Does anyone know where to find beautiful garden urns for super cheap (other than jamali because those are beautiful but on the smaller side)?

Any other ideas? I thought about candles but haven't found anything that would work.

Any ideas for BIG centerpieces that can be done on a budget?

How about potted flowers? You can wrap the pots in pretty fabric or paper and if the blooms are big (hygrangeas for example), they would look very pretty as centerpieces. You could also use potted flowers for your ceremony and then transfer them to the reception site and use them as centerpieces.

You could also have clear glass bowls full of seasonal fruit, foliage, or even candy or almonds or other nuts. I have seen beautiful centerpieces with fruit. If I figure out how to post images to this forum, I will post some for you! -- Stiliana

This is only semi-helpful, because I don't know the cost implications, but here are some big centerpieces that are not flower-intensive (so, theoretically more affordable) that seem to me like they would work with "A Midsummer Night's Dream" - especially with your color of purple flowers:

Thinking outside the box here - I'm just going to get giant pyrex bowls and fill them with flowers (I'm only half kidding here)

I don't mind paying for flowers, esp since I'm doing the arranging myself so I'm just paying for materials. Its the urns/containers that are ridiculous sometimes, at least when you start multiplying these things. I don't want to pay $1000 just for planters you know? I thought about a candlescape but I don't know where to start without it looking too modern. The room is very old American in style so I'm worried modern and clean may not jive?

I feel ya! Even with my tiny wedding, the multiplying effect is startling. Something that starts out so seemingly reasonably priced, like an $8 chair, can really get you!

So, this is probably too modern too, but when I saw it I thought of your lace theme! It IS so pretty, and with cylindrical candle-holders would probably feel more traditional. A combination of these and flowers arranged in the center of the table would be gorgeous - but again, the number and mounting cost of the containers become an issue.

Where on earth did you find those? I love them! Are them handmade or order-able??

I'm finding great stuff on the cb2.com sale. Tall vases -- mix and match. Keep the ones you like, resell the ones you don't want. I'd say definitely go the route where you can resell. There are a l ot of people looking for a good deal and it will pay for itself.
