Amanda Palmer is a musician, and I love her.  And on January 2nd of last year, she got married to Neil Gaiman, who is one of my all-time favorite writers.

And yesterday she finally wrote her wedding recap - a year later.  (So if any of you are worried about procrastinating on it, worry not!)

This is my favorite part:

nowadays, at some level, everybody loves a bride.
and everybody loves a bride, i think, because a bride symbolizes hope.

in a world filled with NO NO NO NO NO and fear and terror and doubt, a bride fills up the space in the minds eye as a giant white tulle YES, and you don’t need to know the romantic backstory. somehow, through some miraculous chain of events, this woman has decided to throw herself into a life commitment. and it means something different now than it did 100, even 50, years ago. because nowadays she has a choice.

It's exactly how I feel about marriage - and I walked down the street from the hotel to my wedding, that was exactly how I felt.  <3

(Here's her blog, which is littered with cursing and such, but it's still glorious.)

A friend of mine posted the link on FB, and I thought it was an interesting look at the reasoning for getting married in a society that has experienced such a change, especially in relationships.  And your quote is perfect and in many ways shows some truth.  For whatever reason, people look at a bride, and it's like some form of magic on them.  Thanks for sharing this.
