A press release from the Metropolitan Police, which doesn't specifically name Winehouse, says:

"Police were called by London Ambulance Service to an address in Camden Square NW1 shortly before 16.05hrs today, Saturday 23 July, following reports of a woman found deceased.

On arrival officers found the body of a 27-year-old female who was pronounced dead at the scene.

Enquiries continue into the circumstances of the death. At this early stage it is being treated as unexplained."

Winehouse famously battled addiction to drugs and alcohol and was in and out of rehab several times throughout the years.

Last month, Winehouse canceled her European tour after a performance in Serbia where she seemed completely out of it.

on one hand....it's sad...she had sooooo much potential and she screwed it up because of drugs

On the other I dont care because she did it to herself

I hope in death she finds the peace she couldn't find in life

Her soul was so troubled...I really hope she is at peace now. Such a true talent gone too soon. I've been reading twitter, and there are some cruel jokes regarding her death...while it's not shocking...it still is shocking, kwim? She is still a human being, that unfortunately was addicted to drugs, something that takes a hold of people and is very hard to shake.

I really loved her music and it is in heavy rotation on my Zune music player on a daily basis...really sad right now.
