Any Coast Guard?

My FI has found it impossible to find a job with law enforcement due to many and various issues.

He's now considering the Coast Guard for maritime law enforcement. It's something he's always wanted to do, and I'm encourageing him to go for it, but I'm still nervous as well.

He's considering enlisting and defering until after the wedding in April.

Anyone out there in the CG or have DH/FI that are? What is it like? If he really wants to be stationed at one of the places in Texas (there are several, we know) what are his odds?

TIA!

Hi Tia, My FI is in the coast guard, he is stationed on the Oregon coast.

We currently are doing the long distance thing because I am not able to move up to where he is stationed right now. His schedule is pretty set and overall of all the different branches of the military, I would say the CG is the most laid back.

I remember that when my FI was in boot camp, they gave them a list of places they could be stationed and they picked their top 5 favorites. My FI did not get his number one choice....usually if you are already married, they will try and station you near your spouse if possible.

Feel free to message me anytime, I can try and answer any questions you might have.

Good luck and happy wedding planning =)

Thanks, Honay! That part about getting stationed near your spouse will make both of us feel better. He could probably pick 5 places in Texas alone!

My FI is a lifelong Coastie as well (15 years so far!).  We've lived apart a bunch, but that's really more due to my career than anything. He does get to make up a dream sheet of his next posting, and they've been pretty good about giving him choices that are on that list.  We've lived apart a lot over the last few years, but that's really more due to my career than anything else.  Lots of luck to your FI =)
