I am doing the Insanity program but i am not getting everything I could out of my workout. So I would like to try a pre workout supplement. Has anyone tried any of them and did they work for you?? I just want to try and get more out of my workouts.

I don't have a preworkout, but I do have a protein shake at the end. FI was on my butt that I should but I was convinced it would make me gain, but he was right.. it helped me lose! Just a half a scoop and like 6-8 oz of milk.. and it's a good treat at the end of the night after my workout too :)

I used to drink Muscle Milk, it's great and it doesn't taste like crap :) You can get it from GNC, and if you catch it when it's on sale you can get a great deal.

Pre-workout wise, I would drink a bottle of cytomax (it's a powder that you put into water) and then you drink another bottle throughout your workout. It gets rid of the lactic acid in your muscles so you can work harder.

With both of those supplements, I was running 3 miles to the gym, doing 2 hours of plyometrics, and then running home with no problem :)

I like the Jarrow forumula whey protein in french vanilla - DH makes a fruit & protein shake w ground flax seed (mixed w water) for me every morning that keeps me full until lunch

@ridegirl - thanks for the heads up on the cytomax

OH - you also might want to get an overall physical - that's how I found out I was anemic

taking iron supplements and getting back on track made a WORLD of differance

@ridegirl- Thank you I will def try those out!! I need something that is going to help me work harder and longer.Does the Cytomax have any taste to it or texture??

@ JoL- I had most of my blood work and levels done while I was pregnant cuz they found out i had Factor5. The rest I think came out ok but def wouldnt hurt to get it checked out again. Thank you!!!

Nope, you just mix it in. There's no texture or anything to it.

It does have a taste, there's a few flavors but I always get the tropical punch kind. It's not a vanilla shake, but it's not bad either.

Instead of a preworkout, try to eat a little protein right after. Just a snack. Your muscles will be craving protein and that will help fuel them to lean up quicker. (That is my VERY unscientific explanation!)

Since this was bumped, I'll put in my two cents: If you're sluggish during your workout, try looking at your sleeping and other factors (what you ate earlier that day. Did you eat enough? Too much? Was it crappy food? etc..) You shouldn't need a pre-work out boost if you're an otherwise healthy person.

A little caffeine works for some people-but it has different effects on people, so it might not be best for you as a pre-work out thing, but some people find it helps them. Also there's a whole slew of other arguments for/against caffeine, but I'll stick with my coffee in the morning :)

I agree with the other ladies that having something post-work out will really help foster muscle development and growth -which in turns help up metabolism. If you're not into protein shakes and powders (which I'm not), a glass of milk or chocolate milk does the job perfectly!! Any mixture of protein and carbohydrates is good to refuel and build muscle!
