Just wondering if anyone checked the calendar for an auspicious day before booking their venue.

We didn't get a chance to b/c our venue was so booked that when we contacted them back in May, their next available Saturday was November 2011!!! We got SOOOO lucky when someone cancelled right before we went for a tour (no one cancels there b/c you don't get your deposit back!).  We immediately booked it and got "stuck" with our date of 5/7/2011.

I decided to check the Chinese calendar anyway to see the auspicious days for 2011... and turns out, 5/7/2011 is the ONLY Saturday next year that is an auspicious day!! LUCKY US!! X2!!

Congrats! Yes, my mom absolutely would not let us choose an unlucky day. 10/24/2009 was a no go because of the combination of the 2 and 4... so we went with 11/7/2009.

Congrats!

Where does one find out the auspicious dates? (I'd probably need to check with my folks who know more about this, hehe.)

I found this, but there seems to be many more Saturdays than just 5/7/2011

I had to check! 6/4/11 was OK...and then my aunt said, "that's the anniversary of the tiannamen square uprising". that gave me a little headache, but I needed to choose a date asap, so just went with it! i love the chinese culture, but i tell ya, it can sometimes be a REAL PAIN to deal with the traditions!

Not by choice, but because of family's wishes, but we set our dates based on some ratings chart for our birthdays. Apparently we had three good dates in October 2011, and okay dates in November.
