i fell in love with the dress i bought.  however, the sample was a size 6.  i'm a 16-18.  the dress is a-line (basically universally flattering), with a corset back... so i took a leap of faith, and bought it without trying it on.  anyone else as potentially stupid but hopeful as i am?

Nope. But with the corset back, you should be fine, because it can be pulled and loosened in the perfect places.

I might be buying a dress I haven't been able to try on. No stores have the dress I like in stock so if I go with this dress i'm just gonna have to pray it looks good on me. You should be fine though. As long as you like the look of the dress what does it matter. You could wear a tarp on your wedding day and your fiance would still think you were gorgeous and looked perfect so I wouldn't sweat it. :)

Yep, I saw a listing on here one day where a bride was selling the dress she had just worn in her wedding.  I had been looking at the exact same dress (pics in my bio) on the Davids Bridal website, but she was willing to sell it for.....get this.....$30 plus shipping.  The shipping was $14, so I got my dress for $44 total!  Can you believe that?  It's one of Davids Bridal's online only styles and sells for just $199 new, and she hadn't had it cleaned after the wedding, which is why she was willing to sell it so cheap.

I took it out of the box, can't find a single spot or anything on it, and it doesn't even have an unpleasant smell!  Oh, and it fits great!  I'm hoping to lose weight before then, so I'll need to have it altered at that point, but if the wedding was tomorrow, I could just step right into it and get married!

Not stupid at all!! You can't go wrong with an A line. Is the dress strapless? If it is does the bust go straight across, sweatheart, or semi-sweatheart?

Meg I think with an A-line you'll be just fine no matter what, especially with a corset back.

Laura - you may have gotten the deal of a lifetime with that gown!  Way to go!!!!

i'm not too worried!  i'm just trying to appease my mom a little (i think she was looking for the "say yes to the dress" experience, instead of "that's the one i'm buying it and there's no way my boobs are fitting in that thing.").

it's strapless, and the bust is straight across, but since "well-endowed" is kind of an understatement when describing me, i'm going to have it altered into a sweetheart.  no shelf-boob for me!

thanks ladies for the input!  once the dress comes in i'll let everyone know how it turns out.

Darn laura, if your wedding was before mine I would have bought it from you so you could turn a profit. I like that dress, its very vintage pretty

I didn't try mine own. I went to the Maggie Site and just kinda picked out the gown and bought it from the retailer in my city. But if I did it over again I would have because I worried about not liking it once I could actually put on. I didn't even see it in person until the day it arrived which was 3 months after it was ordered. I was in agony. Luckily I fell in love with it the moment I put it on.
