Im looking for a career change into nursing. I have been for quite some time now... I think it would be a great job especially for someone like myself that want to focus on my children (when I have 'um) and have a flex schedule.

Has anyone done an accelerated nursing program (24mo's) at a private school? There is a school in San Diego called Kaplan and you can get your clinical hours and education to become an LPN in just 24mos!

*edit: Ill have my RN in 24mos, not just LPN.

I'm going to through an accelerated program in Cincinnati and I'll graduate an August to be an RN (of course after I pass my boards). I love it...but it does take over your life so you def. have to focus and stay on top of your work. I come home and make dinner and spend the rest of the night studying, doing hw or writing papers on top of clinical work. If your dedicated though you can def. do it! If you have any questions I'd be happy to answer them :)

Good Luck!

In NJ the RN programs are 2 years long on average after you finish up the pre-requisites - at the school I went to for my RN there are 4 pre-requ's then the program is 24mo long. The LPN programs here are 12mo long.

jessie - so you went to a 'normal' nursing school without prior college eduaction & all you needed was 4 pre-requ classes? The reason I ask, is b/c this specific school is 24mos long including the pre-requ's & it is like $30k or more... There is no wait list... After the course, I will have my RN with an AA (not BS).

You know what, there are technically 4 pre-requ's to the program I did but I think there are other classes that you had to take while in the program beside the core nursing classes - I had already completed some college previously so I didn't have to re-take them - I forgot about that!

Wow a 2 yr RN would be nice. Mine was 4 years with a 2 year waiting list:( We only had one pre req which was great! A new grad on our ward just did an accelerated program and it was 3 yrs versus 4 and she loved but said it was super hard. SHe spent all her free time doing homework, she couldn't have a job or do much with friends but she said it was well worth it to finish one year sooner.
