So Habibi and I just had a conversation with someone about engagement rings. Someone felt that if you are presented with a ring that is not a diamond that it is not an engagement ring. I kept hearing comments saying that "fake engagement rings" are in said person's possession because they are not made of diamonds. Do you all feel the same way? Just curious……

My engagement ring was a White Topaz, We eventually upgraded to a diamond ring when we could afford it. I think as long as it comes from the heart thats all that matters who cares if it has a diamond or its just a plain band.

No one knows what they are talking about, diamonds do not last forever unless in an airtight perfect enviorment. but they do last millions and millions of years. Within a few years the slogan ‘A Diamond is Forever’ was born. The advertising focused on reminding people that one should buy a diamond, but never sell it, after all it represented ones eternal love. Diamond rings should be passed on to the next generation, but never sold. The small stone was for ever and could not be pulled away from the concept of love.

My e ring is a sapphire because I wanted something non traditional. I think diamonds have just become the standard and people have just followed it for so long that when someone breaks the tradition and does something else others may think it odd. I love my ring personally and if I would have got a diamond thats fine too. It's all in personal taste :)

We are thinking of upgrading my stone but I actually want a synthetic stone. I just think the markup on diamonds is ridiculous, we have so much more important things to spend thousands of dollars on! Plus, there is the whole blood diamond controversy which even if it's not as bad as some would have you believe, it's true that most diamond mines are in areas that employ child labor and strip mines.

So we are researching synthetics and plan to spend only a few hundred on a lab created stone. It will look and behave the same way - so I'm happy!

All I can say is that wherever I go I get compliments on my three stone diamond ring. It is Brilliant and firery and is perfectly clear. It shoots little dots of light onto the ceiling of my car when the sun hits it.

Now let me tell you that my diamond is NOT a diamond. It is Moissanite. I got engaged before this stone was available, and I knew I did not want a diamond. I did not like how the miners were treated. At the time I was an activist and writing letters to all sorts of people about the mistreatment of others.

So, I had my husband buy me a synthetic ruby and had it set in a gorgous 14k antique ring setting that I found.

Fast forward to two years ago and he really wants to buy me a real diamond ring and I said, NO, but I think I found something that we would BOTH love and I showed him Moissanite. http://www.moissanite.com/educate/what-is-moissanite I actually discovered this a few years prior but no one was carrying it in the jewellery stores.

So, when he bought it for me I was in love. I always get compliments on my ring. My sister in law who has a real diamond was out with me I was complimented and she was not. Hers is a single 1.5 carat perfectly perfect stone and cost close to 11k. Mine was around 2k and is as close to perfect as moissanite can get. In addition to 10x magnification you would need to be a highly trained jeweller. i brought it to a normal jeweller and they could not tell until they shined a special light w/ magnification on it.

please check into Moissanite SDonisi I think you will fall in love with these. I also am like you with the Blood Diamond and I will never wear real stones.

Besides I LOVE the compliments that I get on my fake. That alone is worth every penny. BTW I do tell them my secret because We hard working girls deserve to feel like a princess!

So proud to hear you ladies sound off on this! I don't particularly care for diamonds to begin with. People hyped them up to be the standard which is sad. Not everyone can afford them and look at now people are forced into such harsh situations all over a stone that you can cook if you wanted one that badly. You ladies know I walk the road less traveled by. Give me a beautiful, rare, colorful stone over a diamond; it would be worth so much more on soooo many levels!

I'm in love with morganite set in rose gold.  I think that if YOU love it then that is what matters.
