With all that is going on with the state layoffs and the budget crisis has it affected your planning at all?

In what ways will you have to adjust because of it?

Well since nobody I know works for the state.... it doesn't effect my planning. But it the downturn in the economy has effected me greatly!

My parents didn't pay for my college education, however when I graduated they gave me access to a mutual fund account they opened in my name. There plan was to have those stocks pay for my education... well that didn't work out so great, but I can sit on it and use it for a house down-payment if needed.

The job market is not the greatest right now... I'm having a hard time finding a new job with a decent salary; since I live paycheck to paycheck I really don't want to take a pay cut. So, I will stay with this job as long as I can.

FI and I have both taken on second jobs... for the sole purpose of paying off credit card debt, seeing the effect of the horrible economy on other made us realize that we need to not be so carefree with the plastic and pay that sh!t off. Seeing people near us getting hit fairly hard by the downturn, made us reevaluate wedding planning. In our minds, its more of a luxury for us to pay for the wedding and all our guests... especially when city hall gets the job done! Therefore our main goal is eliminate debt, then get married.

@shannon I just took a serious paycut in my new position compared to what i was making before i was layed off. However i am grateful for a position.

some people can't even find one.

Yea... I just got a new job, but it pays minimum wage and I am only going to be working a few hrs a week... so I may have to find a second job just to pay my bills... so yes, it is affecting our planning, we have had to be skimpy with what we spend our $$ on for the wedding.. We had to miss out on a venue that we both liked (well I was in love with it.. not him so much but he liked it, I just liked it a lot more than he did) it was way out of budget and couldn't afford it.. but its ok cause we found something we both like!:)

@sankofa... that is why I am holding on!!! I am so grateful to be employed esp since my industry has been devastated by the downturn of the economy.

@jay... did you consider to push the date back, in order to save more $$ to have the wedding both of you want? I just ask b/c I think that might happen to us...we are planning for 2011, but if I have to wait a year or two longer to have want we envision... then we wait! We have lived together since 2004, so everyone has already waited this long for us to announce that we where engaged, lol!

@ jes, actually we changed our date 4 TIMES already, so we are in no way desiring to do that again... LOL! Yea.. honestly I don't really care about having that venue anymore, I missed the whole point of the day, just to be married to him. Thats all I really want.

i wouldn't say the state layoffs' have affected us.. but the fact the economy is the way it is. its' not allowing for any overtime for FH and I've been out of work pretty much since new years (I went back about 2 weeks before I actually quit) due to medical reasons, and fighting for disbaility rigtht now. So $$ is very hard, living with parents are our age and just thinking about the wedding people crumble. So I plan all in paper and on the computer. I have not one thing in hand at all due to this. Or everything would be done.

FH just applied for a second job. We're praying he gets it. It will help soo much. And along with that praying I get disability.

It just helps that we set our date 2011 and not sooner. So it's stressfull but it's life.
I do have to say I am very thankful for my dad, He has helped me soo much in the last 8 months and I don't know how I'd ever repay him but one way or another I will..
I hate thinking about how people are laidoff each and every day, loosing there houses, cars and everything they worked soo hard for. I can't imangine how hard that is. I would be too depressed in that situation...

@jay, I gotcha!!! I would be too after the 4th change!!! Actually I might do what D!rty did and elope with the closest friends in attendance & a restaurant!! It was a complete surprise to everyone! It has to be one of my favorite weddings on PW. Here are some historic post!!

It reminds me to remember what is important... the union & commitment of two people. You don't need a white dress or and jaw dropping venue in order to celebrate love! kwim?
