Asian brides - Ivory or white dress?

For Asian skin, do you think an ivory or white dress would be better? I'm guessing white since we're sort of already yellow-based? I'm Vietnamese, not very dark, but certainly not pale. It's sort of hard to tell in the shops because the lighting can be so strange.

What do you think??

I went with an Ivory dress. I think it depends on your preference. Personally I think ivory match Asian skin tone better.

Happy dress shopping:-)

I'm Vietnamese too, I tried on both white and ivory dresses. With my skintone, the white made me look so washed out and blah. Which was funny because I walked in the shop saying I would never buy an ivory dress. I guess you never know until you try it on. The Ivory for some reason made me look healthier and tan. Good luck!

I'd also pick ivory vs. white since I'm very fair skined. Maybe try diamond white or off-white so it's in between plus the details of a white dress might look too washed out in some photos with flash. HTH!

I'm half Asian and my mother is very pale. Her wedding dress was a white and it contrasted nicely. I think the ivory would have blended in too much with her skin tone, she is a very very pale Chinese. I think if you are blessed to be a darker tan, you can get by with white because white looks so beautiful against dark skin. I also think that Ivory will compliment a medium tone because as AnnOCGirl said, some others can wash you out and make you look more pale. So it all depends on the tone of your skin on the spectrum!

I'm happa too and very light-skinned, and I picked ivory, but not a very yellow ivory. And I will be hitting the tanning salon before the wedding, even though I think it's kind of gross. To be honest, I think us light-skinned Asians look better in colors than any shade of white, but I wasn't about to pass up being a bride in a white dress! I do think it's important to have good makeup, though, so you don't look washed-out. And separate from how it looks with your skin, how the dress itself looks needs to be considered - I found that some pure white dresses looked cheaper than the same dress in ivory. Not sure why, but they did.

I actually got two dress in two colors. My actual wedding gown is in white and my trash the dress is in ivory. Honestly - after trying both of them on - I kinda like the white one a lot better. But it's also depends on the facial structure and your comfort zone.

i went with ivory/natural. it compliments my skin tone better which is a medium tone and i tan easily. i actually think white looks really good on women who have very fair skin (ie. many girls from HK have fair skin).

Thanks for the posts, ladies! Hm, I guess the best way is to just try them on one right after the other...!

I went with ivory. Being asian and not very white, I think pure white just does not look good on my skin tone. You should go try the dresses though because many say "ivory" but is actually very white..every designer makes a different color of white, so have fun dress shopping!
