So this week I officially decided I'm returning to a career in music!!!  I kind of rebelled against it after 6 years of music school.  But after 3+ years at a dead end 9-5 job, I realized how good I had it.  :)  Fortunately my husband makes enough money that I can pursue this dream again.  (When I was a freelance musician in Kansas City a while back I had a REALLY hard time making ends meet).  The plan is to start taking lessons from a local university violin professor and build up my studio and contacts so I can get more students and more gigs!  I'm so excited about this decision!

that's amazing! and so wonderful that your husband is so supportive of your dream! i'm all about following your passion... i made a similar decision to leave a job i was unhappy with (completely miserable actually) in order to go back to school to become a teacher (applying to grad school now, fingers crossed that i'll get accepted!). it was a tough decision, but i'm glad that i did it and feel so blessed to have such a supportive hubs. good luck to you!!!

YES YES YES WILDFIRE! ! !!

You have no idea how happy I am to hear this :) :) :)

You can do it!  I know what you mean about burnout after music school. . . blech. . .I took a few years off myself and now I'm back at it.

I know me too!  I'm so excited!  Ever since I quit my 9-5 job, I've had this renewed energy and passion for teaching and playing!  I think I start violin lessons in a couple weeks so I can get some of my technique back!  Why oh why did I ever stop???  OH, I guess to make some money.  lol

LOLOL :)

It's so fun Wildfire - I remember thinking too 'why did I stop this?' because now all I want to do is play and teach.  My schedule is pretty awesome too since I'm self employed; here is my one and only tip. . .DON'T let the parents of your students take advantage of you and your schedule!  Don't schedule lessons at times you don't want; I gave up playing with the symphony until January because of a student and I'm KICKING myself for it among other schedule snafus do to the fact that I can't say no.  Oy.

I would love to take lessons - they guy here I want to study with (Basil Vendrys, principle violist with the Colorado Symphony) is really $$$$$ or I have to take classes at DU. . .oh decisions!

Even without lessons I've done well getting gigs and recitals and performing - and I swear I've learned MORE teaching than I ever learned sitting in class or struggling through lessons I didn't practice for (hhehehe, again with the burnout. . . oooops)

Wildfire someday we're gonna have to GTG and play some chamber music ;)

Oh i know!  I'm trying to get my husband to go skiing with me soon (to Colorado of couse!) and if I'm able to convince him we absolutely HAVE to meet up!
