Did you go see Mahtab for your dress fitting? How did it go? What were her prices like and what do you need done?

Thanks!!

i saw mahtab once already.  she was really great.  she really knows what she is doing.  i bought my dress online, so she is taking in the bust, waist and shortening the hemline.  she also showed me how my dress would look like with padding instead of a bra and i loved it, so she is going to sew those in for me too.  everything will be around $150 for me.

Thanks for the info! How long will it take for her to do your dress?

hi there!  i saw mahtab on friday...super nice.  i'm getting cups sewn in to the bodice, the sides taken in through the hips, the hem taken up, and a multiple point bustle done for $250.  i also need to have the zipper replaced because it split and i'm having her steam my dress closer to the wedding but those are both extra.  i go back in three weeks for my second fitting.  not sure how long after that i pick it up.  but she seems to really know what she's doing.  hope that helps!

Sorry Beatie- I added an extra T in your name;-)

That's great help. Thank you. Did you have anyone go in with you for the fitting? Mom, bridesmaid, friend? Just wondering if I would need to bring a friend in so they know how to bustle my dress. Thanks again! We're getting so close. I had a minor freak today when we purchased rings. It really brought home that this is really happening. Yikes!! We really have so much to do yet. How about you guys?

Is it not recommended to get alterations at the bridal salon? I got my dress at Jinnys and was just going to use one of their tailors, should I go see mahtab?

The only reason I'm not getting my dress altered at a bridal shop is that mine went out of business. I got my dress at their going out of business sale. But I have also heard that sometimes bridal salons charge way too much for alterations. Another way to bleed brides dry. I have no idea how Jinny's is though. They may be great and inexpensive.

hey ladies!  yes, i brought my mom and aunt with me, but mostly just for sentimental sappy reasons.  i think for the first fitting, you really don't need someone there since it's just the initial pinnings.  but for the second fitting, you will want someone there so the seamstress can show her how to do the bustle.

rach, i got my dress at jinny's too.  i was initially going to get alterations done there but i've heard that the markup on pricing at salons is pretty high.  and mahtab had tons of great recommendations.  also, living in south county, i didn't want to drive all the way to huntington for each fitting.  mahtab is in lake forest so it was much more convenient for me.  plus, she works out of her home so it just has a smaller, more personal feel.  she said that she had to stop taking new orders through september so if you want to use her, you may want to call way in advance! :)
