So I thought I was being nice and telling the ladies they could pick any black dress they would like to wear.  They are all different heights and sizes and thought best instead of making them all fit into the same dress.  Well now it is back firing because one wants tea length - the others don't.  Has anyone been to a wedding where the bridesmaids wear different length dresses?  Did it look funny??

I have never seen different lengths personally... It could look funny IMO ???

Maybe just set that as a requirement and/or the dress material...  Then they could all do their own thing and still look uniform, you know?

How many do you have? We had this problem with shoes- so we ust had an open discussion about it and it was super helpful- it was way easier to come to a happy medium rather then feeling bossy, etc.

hmm.. don't think it will be a big deal if they're diff lengths. Like HMM said, maybe have them be the same material at least? or maybe add a significant piece or article like a pashmina or hair flower in a bold color taht you get for them that will make them look uniform?

I think it depends on HOW different the lengths are. I think you are being very reasonable in letting them pick their own dresses, but how about telling them you want them all to be a certain length?

i agree...i don't think they all have to be the same length....their bouquets should tie it together...

I had all of my bridesmaids in any black dress of their choice, for the same reasons you stated. I did specify that they all be knee length, just to make it easier. Plus, I knew that they'd all pick dresses they could wear again. I bought them all a matching burgundy pashmina. I think there's a pic in my bio. They all seemed really happy with the choice.

Maybe pick a length and make it easier on all of them. Tea length will be a little more casual, floor length, obviously more formal.

I saw a pic of a bride and her BMs with all different length black dresses... I just can't find it right now... I'll post if I can find it. It didn't look weird.

Good luck!

I saw a wedding that did this, but all the girls had the same chunky red/orange necklace. It sounded odd, but with the flowers and everything, the colors popped and was very nice.
