Anyone not getting married in their hometown? I'm not and I'm regretting it now. I would give anything to move the wedding to northern cal. When FI and I were discussing the wedding location, he suggested that we do the wedding in So Cal since we're local and it'll be easier for us to meet vendors. It seemed a good idea at the time but now that I look at my guestlist, most of my guests are from OOT and will most likely not make it. So, most of the guests will be his.

We've spent so much $$ on the venue, vendors, planner, etc. It's a bit too late to change locations now. I even suggested having a second reception in my hometown but FI said that it'll be more $$ and that my guests will not make the effort to come to So Cal for the actual wedding.

Ugh. Sorry girls. Just had to vent.

That is a bummer! I am in the opposite boat, we are living in NorCal and planning the wedding in my home town in SoCal. I wish I were living where the wedding is going to be. It is hard to do it long distance. Sorry you are regretting it! One thought, if you think that your friends from the Bay area won't come down for the wedding, maybe have a "house warming" type thing up here and invite them all. That won't be too much money, just some beer and wine and maybe some cheese and crackers

we live in Dallas and are planning our wedding in the Bay area...it's been difficult and we've relied heavily on the internet and phone for booking vendors...it does suck in that i would have liked to see these things in person...and same as you, our guest list will be mostly my FI's family, as mine lives in IA and due to travel costs, i don't see a lot of people making the trip....

Don't feel too bummed FutureMrsB! I'm on jharkins boat. I would give anything to be able to check out locations and meet with potential vendors but I can't. I have to rely on my family's opinion which drives me nuts because sometimes our tastes and priorities are way off!

Are you sure most of the OOT guests wont be able to make it? Or are you guessing? If you think they can't make it due to hotel costs, maybe offer them a place to stay for one night? My family is so laid back that we've pitched tents in the backyard and had them crash before. It may be fun and will let them drive down for the wedding and drive back the next day?

ooooo or you can have them all chip in for a charter bus, so they can have someone drive them down to LA. If they are chill, like WM's family, then maybe they would be into renting a house for a night and all just crashing where they land!

hey =)   i'm sorry you're bummed - planning out of the area is hard and then if it's not really where your heart is - that makes it even harder... i know... you know that =)

i think weddings are special in that people really do make more of an effort to plan a trip since it is such a life-changing and special event.  keep your chin up sister =)

Thanks for the kind words, ladies. It is too late to move the wedding. I'm just glad to hear your perspectives.

jharkins - I like your idea of having a small get together. FI already promised me that our 5th year anniversary will be celebrated up north. He also said that our wedding shower can be there. I like the charter bus idea. =)

jackieg - Aw, we're in the same boat! Most of our guests will be FI's. Maybe I can take a drink or three after we're done with pics. Lol.

WM - I'm just guessing that most won't make it since they are my parents' friends. They're basically "acquaintances" to me. But who knows..they might make it too. We're planning to send the std's 9 months ahead.

dirty -You already know how I'm feeling. =) Thanks for the kind words, girl.
