Cake advice...ASAP!!!

Hi! I need GOOD advice ASAP!!!!!!!! So, we have been wishy washy about what we want, as far as the cake goes...we decided on a bigger cake and today our cake maker gave us a quote of over $1200, not including the delivery fee. This was a huge shock to us, because we were planning on spending MUCH less. Does anyone have good ideas for a dessert table?? Or even better, pictures?? We are going for a more modern, elegant type wedding, and I didn't think the dessert table would fit in well with that, but maybe I just have a different picture of it in my head. I would like to stay away from the candy bar idea, because my brother had that at his wedding. Plus, we don't necessarily want to have to buy goodies bags for guests to take the candy home in, as we already have our favors. So, any ideas for actual desserts that can be eaten there, or taken home on a plate? Thank you so much!!!!

I have seen many suggestions where you get a small cake for pictures, and then do a sheet cake to serve to guests! :) maybe that would work?

We had a cheescake 2 wedding type cakes Cupcakes towers and ambrosia mold along with candy and treats.

I made it all myself. you can see bits and pieces in my bio.

I only did a single tier 2 layer for the "wedding cakes". and I had a ton left over because i had so much food. I ended up sending in the left over cake with my hubby to his work and they devoured it.

People loved it.

I would suggest shopping around for cakes at different bakeries, $1,200 sounds ridiculous! You also need to remember to ask your venue if they have a cake cutting fee. Lame I know, but lots of venues do!

I guess I should've mentioned this already...we can't really back out of the baker, because we already paid a deposit to "save the date" and that was $400. So, kinda too much to let go to waste. Also, I am not much of a baker, and I don't have anyone close to me who is either, so as far as doing it myself, I don't think that's an option. But, just ideas for having a nice little one or two-tier cake, and then other various desserts or ideas on how to decorate the table so it all goes well together and well with the elegant theme would be much appreciated! Thank you!! :)

I am on my phone or I would.be sending you pictures. You can pull this off and have it look very elegant. I will be able to send examples tomorrow. Why is your cake so much money? How many tiers did you ask.for? If she does a smaller cake with sone other goodies on the table will that bring down the cost?

Okay, so here are a few ideas from a quick search. I saw tables and dressers used as well as displaying your goodies on various cake stands and plates. 

Most are a smaller wedding cake and various bite sized treats. Hope this helps a little Hun.

That is a lot of money for a cake!! What about a smaller cake? Otherwise, our baker actually made us a fake cake, it looks real but she frosted styrofoam pieces, and then we served sheet cakes...much cheaper! The top layer of the cake was real so we could do the cake cutting, but the rest was not.

Otherwise, I think a dessert bar would fit in nicely with a modern theme. Depending on your style and colors, you could get really creative with how you displayed it all, and if you vary it up, have some plates of cookies, with a few pies, and some other bar type of desserts, you won't be buying a ton of just one thing so that will help keep the cost down. Plus, if you are not doing a super fancy cake you could make the desserts yourself or enlist help from friends and family. HTH!
