Cake help!

I have questions about cake. I don't plan on getting a huge cake, just something simple with 2 tiers. Did ya'll buy sheet cake for the rest of your guests, (if you had a small cake for you & the groom)

How does that work, should I divide up our cake into the mix of how many peices i would need total?

Are you planning on making it or buying a simple two tier cake? I know some brides have used a display cake its a dummy only for the show and the small top tier is the only real one..that's the one you and your FI would cut. You can buy a cake from the gorcery store and have that one for the guests..they won't see it anyway. 

Adding on to monche's post, if you have a friend/family member that can bake, you might want to enlist their assistance with this. 

If you're going to do sheet cakes to serve the guests, I do think it's definitely best to have them be double layer and filled like a regular wedding cake would be. You might want to have a small 2-tier cake and save the top tier for your anniversary, and use the bottom tier as your cutting cake and maybe to serve the bridal party. Or you could just plan on keeping that cake for yourselves and taking the leftovers back to the hotel with you for a late night/early morning snack.

Or, of course, you could always do a cutting cake and serve cupcakes to the guests. :)

How many guests are you having?  The actual savings from having an additional sheet cake will vary depending on how many servings you need.  Also, are you planning on saving the top tier?  For instance, if you were to have 100 guests, there might be much cost difference to get a three-tier cake versus getting a two tier cake plus an additional sheet.

How many guest are you expecting? My cake was three tiers and then my baker made a sheet cake for the guest because of the number of people that I told her was coming. We had so much cake left over that we actually did not need the sheet cake. We could have fed all our guest with our cake plus kept our top tier!
