Negotiations Between Canada Post And CUPW Break Off

Despite intense negotiations over the past 72 hours, Canada Post and the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) have not been able to reach an agreement. Talks between the two have now broken off. Every effort has been made to reach a
negotiated settlement that is in the best interests of employees, customers and the company. The company and union still remain far apart on several issues. Canada Post still has a fair and generous offer on the table—one that protects the pay, pension
and job security of existing employees. Employees hired in the future would be offered wages and benefits that are superior to those offered by competing logistic and delivery companies. Canada Post is unable to accommodate the union’s
demands without jeopardizing its financial viability. The company simply cannot become a burden on Canadian taxpayers or expect to pass on additional costs to customers who rely on affordable shipping solutions. Canada Post must now find ways to deal with
the financial damage caused by the work disruption. The company regrets that labour negotiations with CUPW have now reached an impasse and we apologize to Canadians for the hardship this has caused.
