Candy Bar

Are most of you buying favors for your wedding guests and then displaying them beside each place setting? Or do you have other ideas that are not so traditional?

I really like the idea of displaying 3 or 4 large/extra large glass hurricanes filled with the favorite candies of our childhood (circa 1970's).  And then placing cellophane bags in our wedding colors on the table so that guests can take a "Sweet Dreams" favor home with them.

Just an idea for now, but since September feels like it's around the corner I need to decide if this will be the idea that I'll be going through with or not.

Your idea sounds really cute - I would do it! It's a great way to personalize your wedding. Just make sure to buy more candy than you think you will need. Sometimes, you get the little boogers that take extras :) People love something they can either use or eat. A lot of favors like the bubbles, most people won't even take them home. So definitely on your idea.

We are having a "dessert reception" so we are having a candy bar as the favors, along with little things like Tears of Joy packet, and the bubble wands. I am looking to get cello bags that we can either personalize with a monogram sticker or something like that.

I have found really nice monogram stickers on sheets for $1 each at dollartree - you might be able to still get them. My wedding was back in December and they had them then by the wedding items.

Another thing to think about would be waiting to hand around the bags until later in the night, if you don't want a bunch of people digging into the candy right when they get there (leaving your pretty display depleted too early). We are (planning on) having the candy set up looking all nice and everything, after people arrive and head outside for the cocktail party. Then they will see it when they come inside, and the bags will be set up at the table after dinner and dessert is finished. I want my photog to have enough time to get good pictures and I don't want the kids getting all wired on candy before we get through the toasts and dinner etc.

Thanks for all the advice.

I saw it done at a really nice wedding here in NYC and it was put out right at the end so as to create a surprise effect for everyone.    Oh, and I won't have to worry about the kids since we're having a strict no kiddies allowed policy.
