Ceiling Fans?

Growing up, I had a ceiling fan in my room.  In our first apt. DH  encountered his first ceiling fan, grew to love having one, and insisted we install one in our house's MB.  Now I'd like to put one in the guest room.  My reasoning: on warm days we use the fan instead of the central air and save energy/$$$

Two close friends have mentioned how "dated" ceiling fans are and why would we want to make the house look and feel old.  Be honest, are ceiling fans "dated"? I feel like this is the silliest post I've written on PW but it's really irking me.

Thanks!

i don't think ceiling fans have to be dated.  In fact, we are thinking of installing them as well since they are more economical.  There are a lot of modern ceiling fan styles out there nowadays.

I don't think they are outdated at all!!! Honestly I can't stand not having ceiling fans in our rooms (though we live in AZ so we used them A LOT!).  My mom used to have these white ceiling fans in our house which I considered extremely outdated, but Hunter makes beautiful ones to complement any room.

We have this one is our family room and I love the way it looks
