My fiance and I were planning on getting married March 19, 2011.  This happens to fall under the Lent season.  Does anyone know if this is acceptable or unacceptable?  We are getting married at an Episcopal church and they have accepted our date.  Anyone happen to know?

If the Church ok'd it then I would think its ok? Are you worried it would upset some guests?

I've never heard of any issues with this, but could see how this may seem worrisome during a time of solemnity (no Allelujiah being sung, etc).  I'd say it'd be a lovely spring wedding though.  I would assume the only week to avoid would be Holy Week (and maybe Palm Sunday weekend??) during Lent so you shouldn't have a problem as long as a priest allows it.

Oh just found this too:

"There are no legal restrictions on when the Rite of Marriage may be celebrated, with the exception of the Triduum, as long as the various guidelines specific to the particular parish are respected. When the Rite of Marriage includes a Mass there are limitations as to dates and readings. Few parishes celebrate weddings on Sundays, but a few policies encourage couples to consider integrating their wedding into the regularly scheduled Sunday Mass to more fully express the support of the parish community (See, for example, Gary, Sioux City, Kansas City/St. Joseph, and Louisville). When a wedding coincides with a major feast the readings for that feast must be respected. Weddings during penitential seasons must respect the church tone and décor appropriate for the season."

In other words ... take it easy on the flowers and decorations, and also keep in mind that your anniversary is likely to occur during Lent most years too.

The only thing I would consider is fasting guests.

I was actually told by the receptionist (or whatever they're called) at my church our April 2nd date was fine after we had to move the date once already due to the reception place messing up our date. It wasn't until my mom mentioned she thought ceremonies weren't allowed during Lent, so I called back to double check and sure enough, no ceremonies allowed, so we had to move it AGAIN! Anyway, I would just say make sure it's really ok! Who knows how long the planning would've gone with that date if my mom wouldn't have questioned it!
