So I am brand new to charting... and I am confused about something.

My alarm goes off every day at 6:15am. I usually hit snooze until about 6:45 (my hubs is usually awake already, so I torture myself alone). But within that time, I'm in & out of sleep (obviously hitting the snooze a few times). Does it matter if I am awake, and kind of asleep for 30-45min? OR should I be taking my temp right when I first open my eyes at 6:15am? I would imagine this being hard when I want to sleep in on the weekends too... At the moment I have been temping at 6:45am before I physcially get out of bed.

I always temped when my first alarm would go off. During the week, I'd press the snooze button, take my temp, then go back asleep till my next alarm would go off lol. On the weekends, I'd still make sure to set my alarm for the same time, then just temp and go right back to sleep without a second alarm. It really is important to do it at the same time every day and right when you open your eyes in the morning. You'll get used to it pretty quick ;)

I agree that it should be done at the first alarm at 6:15.  They say you should temp after at least four hours of sleep, before you stand up, talk, drink water, brush your teeth, etc.  The basal body thermometer is intended to measure the slight changes in your temp and your body warms up quickly after waking.  I actually only work two days a week so it really sucks to have the alarm wake me everyday at 7, but I keep the thermometer on my nightstand and now typically don't even open my eyes at all. Mine will rememebr the last temp I took so I just take it, turn it off, and check it when I am really "awake."  It sucks, but you get used to it!  HTH!

Thanks! No more snoozin! Maybe actually 'getting up' at 6:15 would do this girl some good too! Lol

I'm the same way...I hit the snooze multiple times...and DH HATES it!  I get yelled at everytime I do it.  He always tells me to just set it when I need to wake up and I'll get more sleep but my intention is always to wake up earlier! lol

I could never chart for this very reason.  I'm a horrible sleeper until 5am and I read that it's best if you have 3-4 hours of continuous sleep then wake and temp.  I'm constantly waking up throughout the night most nights.

Ditto futuremrs and murph! It is SO hard to do it at the same time every day if you are a snoozer, traveler or just like sleeping in every once in awhile. (I am all of the above. And I also go right back to sleep after taking my temp 90% of time!) But I think it really does help to give you an accurate reading. Like Laurie said, those extra few minutes can make a big difference sometimes!
