Hi. I have just discovered that my much loved Nikon does not enjoy being outside at -10 degrees. BIG issue considering I'm in Canada! Lol
I don't really want to get a new SLR just for the few occasions that I'll be outside taking piccies so can anyone suggest a make/model that is specifically for -10 or colder??

My Google search wasn't very successful!!!!

Keep an extra battery warm, like in an inside pocket...that's usually the culprit

I believe you'll also find that the cold drains batteries so I think jackieg's idea is a good one.

It's not the battery that is the problem, it's the shutter. It takes 1-2 seconds to go once I've hit the button so even with a tripod it's blurry. The website says that it will happen below -10 so I was just going to get a point-and-shoot for getting snaps of my boys when they're out tobogganing etc but don't want the same issue with that as I do with my SLR

Well, the camera does need the battery to make the shutter fire....and honestly I would not take my cameras out in that weather...

Kudos to you taking photos under such weather condition!  It's an interesting question.  Being in California, I've never thought about this before.  What camera do you have? I can't help on this topic, but I did a google search with the terms "nikon cold weather range" or "nikon cold weather shutter slow" and there are quite a few great articles and discussions about it, especially from Photo.net.  This one is especially relevant - http://photo.net/canon-eos-digital-camera-forum/00SJap
