I love love love cranberry sauce.

My FAVORITE is to get fresh cranberries and boil them with sugar and orange juice until they pop.  (one cup sugar, one cup OJ, one package cranberries/12 oz)

Well, I mention this to DH and he says 'ummm, I actually like the kind in the can that goes 'Fppllllooooop' when it comes out' (meaning, the jellied cranberry's)

BAH!  So I'm going to make cranberries, and by a can of 'fpploooopppers' just for DH :)

How about you and your SO?

hahaha I love your descriptions. I've never actually eaten cranberry sauce. My family always has the flop kind, and I can't even stand to taste it because it looks like the texture of jello which grosses me out. DH doesn't like cranberry sauce either

See that's funny because you are so right!  The flop kind is just like jello and I HATE jello - but for some reason the flop cranberry sauce isn't repulsive to me?  Who knows. . .lol

I don't even know why they call it "cranberry sauce". I call it cranberry jello because that's what it looks like. So my question is, is you make actual SAUCE-not jello-what do you put the sauce on? Do you put it on top of your turkey?Do you eat it by itself?

I never touch it .... Its one of those things I hated as a kid that I have NOT tried to revisit as an adult :)

You are so right there too JB - the cranberry 'jello' isn't really 'sauce' right?

I think the homemade whole berry sauce is great on turkey.  It's not thin at all - it globs on.  Even better on a turkey sandwich.  I eat it by itself too.

Now, I can't be the only gal that loves cranberries. . .

hahaha I am a Fpplllloooooper too!  I love the canned stuff- but only the smooth kind, not the kind with chunks of cranberries. :P  I'm like Niecy with her stovetop- I haven't met many homemade sauces I care for.

This is an ongoing tease-argument between my fiance and I... he'll be like "Well, YOU like cranberry sauce from a can" and I'll be like "Well YOU like pureed organ meat".  These are both (for us respectively) the grossest concoctions known to man. :P

The stuff from the can does have a somewhat different consistency/taste from jello...it is grainier, less "solid" so to speak, and it's both more tart and less sweet.  I say this as someone who has tasted cranberry jello and cranberry sauce side-by-side. ;)  I mash it up before I serve it so it doesn't have the can shape anymore- more appetizing that way for everyone. :P

My family doesn't mash it up! They just put it on a platter in the can shape and slice it! But even after it's sliced it has it's way of sticking together-you can still see the can shape, even the ribs in the middle!

LOLOLOLOLOL JB that is DEFINITELY how my family serves it!

Sliced.

Anyways - the homemade sauces - I'm definitely NOT a fan when they start getting all fancy - with almonds and candied orange peel - BLECH

I don't like a lot of "fancy" foods either, I guess I have simple taste. ok back to the cranberry sauce discussion...

I wonder what the canned version would look like if you tried to melt it down in a saucepan? would it become more like actual sauce?........
