So many to choose from! What did you pick?!

All the research about off-gassing makes me want to buy an organic one. They are $$. But for piece of mind, I think its worth the extra $.

I like the colgate classica III eco friendlier one ($219) -vs naturepedic no compromise organic cotton 150seamless duo ($299)

Both get good reviews- the 2nd is way heavier. Both have dual sides so you can flip it for a toddler bed.

I hadn't read about off-gassing until earlier this week and I'm conflicted on what to do!

I registered for a middle of the line mattress but I'm not sure that's what I want to go with.

It looks like BRU has a few different organic mattress options. I think I'll be doing some additional research tonight when I get home.

This is about the research in New Zeland, which use to have the highest rate of SIDS- but mattress wrapping and changes in mattress have decreased it a lot. I feel like that is a lot of proof.

I am not sure I would spend 2-3x on a mattress, despite the claims out of New Zealand. I would, however, buy a wrap for $29.95 from amazon and go with a regular mattress. I am not inclined to believe the conspiracy theory set forth by the article, but I wouldn't want to ignore the possibility either.  I do plan for both DH and I to take CPR and would likely use a snuza or angel care monitor as well.  Even though I am the 3rd child, my other only learned CPR when she was pregnant with me - and found me in my crib not breathing at ~2 months old one night.  She saved my life!

We didn't end up buying an organic mattress for my DD - and we will be reusing the crib and mattress for this baby so he won't have one either. At the time I couldn't find a comfortable foam one (which is what I wanted vs springs) and they were all like $300 more too. I am pretty anal about what fabrics went into th crib with her, but honestly she wasn't really in her crib much at all (if any) until after four months when the SIDS rates go way way down. I was also comforted to know that moms who do not smoke and have never smoked, breastfeed, and sleep near their baby have virtually no risk of SIDS - so if you do all that you are already way way way ahead of the game. I also know that babies who use pacifiers have less risk so if anyone gives you a hard time about using them just tell them that :)
