My mother is all on me about shopping for nursery stuff, "that room needs painted!"  She's nuts.  However, DH and I were talking cribs and we both agree we want to have our kids close in age, so once our 1st LO is around 6 months old, we'll probably start trying again.  So when we were discussing cribs, we couldnt decide if it would be smarter to get a nice durable crib that could last 2 babies or get one of the cribs that goes from crib to toddler bed and then buy a new crib for the 2nd LO.  Anyone have any opinions or anyone been through this and made a decision and it worked out well or you wish you'd done something different?  Just trying to get an idea as to what would work best. TIA!

I think having kids that close I would do the 2 seperate cribs that turn into toddler bed option.

We bought a crib from BRU for around $150 (i think) that turns into a toddler bed and then I think even a double bed.  I wasn't exactly sure if we would use that as a toddler bed but at least the option was there.  My first LO turns 2 in November and she is still in her crib and dosnt mind her crib (yet) and I dont want to rush her into a toddler bed because she's becoming a big sister. Alexis' crib now has teeth marks from when she was teething, so the plan is to buy another crib that converts and give Alexis the new crib since she wont bite it anymore (i dont think anyways lol) 

Plus we have a dark brown crib and changing table and alexis is using my white dresser from when I was a kid, so I want to get her a white bed to match the dresser. HTH :) 

I have a similar plan as yours, in that I want my kids to be close in age. I plan on getting two nice but inexpensive cribs from Ikea that converts to toddler beds. We already have two twin sized beds so I don't want to invest in one of those cribs that converts to a full size bed. And I just feel better getting a nice new crib for the second LO, albeit a cheap one. And if things don't work out as I planned, I would also feel better knowing I didn't invest so heavily on a crib that would last five kids.

We will get the convertable cribs- it just makes sense to me to have a crib change as my baby grows and can have for a very long time.

Dh's mom asked which one we want...I think we are going to be lucky and she and her mom will buy our furniture. That will be a huge blessing...but I have no idea what I want! I have been looking around and if i love one they are like $1300!! And thats a no go! lol.

Any one found some they love?

id buy 2 cribs. it may take longer then expected for LO #1 to completely transition into a bed & the last thing youd want is her feeling like she is being kicked out of her comfy cozy crib for her little brother/sister. my daughter is 20 months and no where near being in a toddler bed. on the other hand, my friends daughter has been in a toddler bed since she was 13 months old. sibling rivalry and jealousy can stem from all kinds of things, so you should prepare for worst case scenario!
