Has anyone ever heard of cutting the cake BEFORE dinner?? Our photographer suggested it to save photography time (what?), but I didn't know if this was the norm or what...

My friend who got married last July did it. They did when people are busy actually so they didn't announce it

So do we eat the cake first? I guess I am just confused.

That sounds kinda weird to me. It sounds like the photographer thinks the dinner might go long and his time will be up before you cut the cake. If anything, to save some time, maye cut the cake during dinner, but after people have been eating for a little bit.
Good luck!

I think so too. Thanks for the tip.

I've never heard of that before. As much as I like dessert, I don't know if I'd want to eat it before dinner at a wedding. Maybe for pictures sake, you could cut the cake after dinner, but serve it later.

i did. i read a whole article about it. they say do it when you have all your guest's attention. the cake will be served after dinner as usual. but what happens is the dj will intro the couple. they'll cut the cake and do the feeding of the cake and they'll take it to the back and cut it up and wiat til after dinner to serve. i wouldn't that because this usually signifies the older generation that the reception for them is nearing. i don't want them thinking they can leave at anytime. plus... i want to see my cake for as long as i could.

Cutting the cake before dinner is very popular among destination weddings in Hawaii when the photographer doesn't stay for the entire reception. The cake will be served after dinner.
