Hi ladies,

Did you take dance lessons? If so, any recommendation? When should I start taking lessons?

we are taking lessons with kayla north at arthur murray in redwood city. she's amazing and we love it! it's been really fun learning a wide variety of styles in addition to the first dance she choreographed for us. it is our weekly date night together. we started lessons very early because we wanted to do more than just the first dance. i do recommend an early start just so you don't feel overwhelmed or pressured with all the last minute details of a wedding! GL!

We took lessons at the Cheryl Burke studio in Mountain View.  Our teacher was Jet'aime.  She was great - she choreographed our entire first dance from the entrance all the way through to the exit.  She even made sure we were facing the right way the whole time.

In terms of timing ... we did a group lesson of beginner's waltz in June and then took July off.  Then in August we started seeing her twice a week.  Once a week just wasn't enough since I knew DH and I wouldn't practice at home.

Thanks Jamie! I'll check that studio also. I'm kind of excited now to learn our first dance. I'm horrible at dancing so hopefully taking the lessons will make me less awkward during the first dance :p

NP ... neither of us were dancers either.  Jet'aime really helped us feel comfortable on the dance floor.  We still bobbled a few steps, but we're glad we didn't just do the high school sway! :)

Any dance place suggestions in the North Bay???

I don't have any recommendations on the North Bay - but I'll second Jamie - I'm the most uncoordinated person and it was amazing what some one on one dance lessons can do. We have a choreographed piece as well starting with the fox trot and then east coast swing and wrapping up with west coast. hard to imagine we'd be having that much fun and look this good in such a short time! i found it really happy to practice with the group classes while learning to get a better sense of what i need to do and maximize our private lessons. and FI and I love having a regular date night together and learning something that we'll be able to do together for a long time. It is an investment to have dance lessons but so fun and very worth it. GL!
