Ok, so I'm starting to worry.  The envelopes that I am mailing my invitations in are dark brown:

Ok so I m photo 55979-1

I used a metallic gold pen to write the addresses on them.  But I just read on the USPS web site that letters/cards can be mailed in "white, manila, or recycled paper"!  Does this mean my invitations won't get mailed?  Does anyone have any experience with mailing dark envelopes???

My friend got married in May and sent something similar in brown (like a copper/amber shade not quite as dark as your chocolate brown color) and used gold foil-type ink and she didn't have any problems at all. I wouldn't worry about it. All the invitation sites sell colored envelopes and they always get delivered! I think it would only be a problem if the machine scanner couldn't read the ink for the addresses. My friend's gold ink wasn't a problem so I hope you don't have any problems either.

phew...thanks nova!  i actually addressed one to me and FI and put it in the mail today to see if my postage was enough so it will be a good test to see if the envelope or ink is a problem too.  thanks!

That's a great idea! If the gold-foil ink is a problem you may want to consider pre-printed labels off the computer.

Yes, I had dark red envelopes and just ran them through the printer with bold black cursive- they were completely legible and have arrived to my guests with no problems...

Also if you get them hand cancelled- then I don't think they run through the scanner?

Not sure, but I think thats what they said...

Our RSVP cards were dark red and we used clear labels with black ink for our return address.  So far we haven't had any problems as we've been getting RSVPs back.
