"deep dive" meetings

I ran into an old coworker at lunch today and he said he was on his way to a "deep dive" meeting...

I asked, what's a deep dive meeting?

Apparently the management style has changed. Before if you were late, the managers would come knock on your cube door and bug you, or call you in at lunch daily and ask for status.

According to my old coworker, the management style is more agressive now and if you're late then you're invited to a "deep dive meeting," which is basically 1-2 employees, and 4-5 managers talking about why you're late.

Is that more common these days?

Sorry, when I mean "late" I mean your didn't meet the schedule, not "late to work." Most people here work until 7pm so being late to work isn't such an issue because everyone stays late anyway. =)

oh gosh, I thought you meant time-wise, because that would just be a horrible and uncomfortable experience! Is that a techie term? I haven't heard that, but then again, I don't work in a corporate atmosphere, so I don't know. You know last week I had a talking to from my manager about my time, but that's because I was coming in 5-10 minutes late on consecutive days. I apologize, but I think it should be understandable considering I commute 25 miles and it takes me an hour to get here on a good day (of course it varies since you know traffic in LA is always unpredictable!). Argh.

I think it's good to have a meeting to see why you're not meeting your deadline, but to be so top heavy (4-5 managers) is a bit extreme, don't you think?

I would be interested if that actually works. Is it meant more to scare you into working harder or is it meant to really figure out what's holding you back and help you remove those obstacles?

The 2nd one might make sense and is why all the managers need to be there. The 1st just seems silly.

I think it sounds reasonable, but I guess it depends on the details of what happens during those meetings. Like Joje said, if it's a scare tactic then that's not so cool.

Work can be stressful. I think we all work too hard. Sounds like you need to de-stress. I certainly know I do.
