Hi ladies,

I think some of you have already gone through this, or at least know which direction to stear me in. My FI just graduated AIT. He's now, at his base, and knows that he will deploy early next year. Our wedding is 11/11/11. We don't think he will be here for that day. How do we request RR? Or specifically since he knows in advance the date, will the Army work with us?

They usually will be asked to request a specific month they want their r&r to be in ab few weeks before they actually leave. There is no guarantee that he will get the actual day. There are too many factors involved to get a specific day. Typically he won't even know what day he leaves where he is stationed until almost the last minute. It depends on what is happening at that time combat wise, How long it takes him to get a flight out, how long it takes him to change flights and things like that. Its the same as when a soldier is returning home for the birth of their child, there is no guarantee that they will be home in time. We have been through four deployments together and its the same everytime.

any news of this? The best I can say is have a clause in your contracts with your vendors that you can get out of them without penalty if he can't come home. I'd check militaryonesource.com and find out if there are any laws concerning this. I know there are military clauses for just about every kind of contract out there so I would check into this.

sorry ladies...i forgot all about this post. First of all...FI is no longer my FI...he's my HUSBAND now!! He deployed back in June, and when he came home for r&r in November, we got married in a civil ceremony on the the 5th. He will be back from deployment sometime in May or June of 2011, which means he will be home in time for our 11.11.11. ceremony. Thanks for the support!! Hooah!!
