Just wondering how you ladies got your rings.  When he proposed, he already had a ring and picked it out all on his own.  It was a simple 3 stone princess cut, no wedding band included.  It's been 5 years since he's proposed and now I get to finally wear a wedding band.  FI has said that if I want, I can get a whole new set!  We both have totally different styles of ring in mind.  He likes the simple, modern look, but I don't because they are so common these days.  I'm different, so I want something different that fewer people have but I also want to be considerate of his likes.  But, shouldn't I be able to get what I want because I'm the one who's going to be wearing it?  Even if he doesn't like it?  Ugh..  so confused!

FI surprised me with a sweet little (normal size in europe) e-ring. after the proposal we bought him a simple golden e-ring which he will use as his wedding band. first i wanted to buy the same ring for me as a wedding band. but i changed my mind :)) last week i bought a prong setting ring with 11 diamonds. i am so looking forward, hope it fits with my e-ring. fi is ok with that, although the new ring is more expensive :) you should buy the ring of your dreams - you will wear it your hole life!!

I wanted a single stone set on a simple band: classic solitaire. Luckily, FI also loves that style, so when he chose the ring on his own, that's what I got :)

I think the ring should reflect your FI a little since he's the one giving it to you, but you should really love it since it's your ring. Can the two of you look together for this new ring? Maybe when he sees how much you love a particular style, he'll love it too.

We went looking together. It was a very long and bumpy road to us getting engaged (long distance, lay-offs, unemployment, etc.) so we had plenty of time to look around.

I basically spent two full years looking at rings trying to find the perfect one, I wanted something very specific and finally found it in an ArtCarved Ring (pics in bio). It was funny because we went to Jared's first and spent like a good hour in the store looking at various different styles. Then we walked into a Day's Jewelers and I sat down and pointed and was like, "I want that one."

It was kind of very similar to the way I decided I wanted FI :P Just up and decided one day, "I want that one." He wanted me to have something that I would love since I'd be wearing it for the rest of my life so it was important to him that we did it together.

I told him the style of rings I like "vintage" non-solitaire and he picked one out all by himself. He did a great job :)

We hadn't ever looked at rings, he chose a three stone e-ring. Though it is not what I would have picked...I love it! Essentially, I personally believe that it is a gift from your FI and if this is what he wanted me to have then I will take it. Plus, you can always upgrade later, right?????

Gatewood:  I think you hit the nail on the head!  I also received a 3 stone, and I wasn't complaining either when I got it!  It's beautiful, and now that we can afford to get a bridal set, we're still along the lines of the 3 stone wedding set, except now I get to have a band to go with my ring.  And yes, we will definitely upgrade later!

We went out looking at rings and I found 3 very different ones that I liked. He surprised me the next day with the one that was my favorite (full story in bio). I love it! He said he liked it best because it had the most sparkle and he wanted people to look at it and wonder "wow! Who gave you that?!"
