Did you have a rehearsal dinner or having one?

Did you or didn't you have a rehearsal dinner and why or why not? I chose not to have one. Traditionally the purpose of this is for the relatives and friends of the bride and groom to meet and greet one another. Also, the groom's parents inccur the cost. In this day and age, many bride and groom's are paying for their own weddings, so I found this to be unnecessary expense. At first I was going to have a get together at our home for the rehearsal dinner, but when I ended up doing a vast amount of work as well as expense for my own bridal shower, I opted not to do it.

That is a pretty good reason not to have one!

We are doing a rehearsal LUNCH. I like the idea of getting together with the bridal party the day before. It's a nice little time. We are fortunate FI's parents offered to pay for it. If they hadn't, we probably would have had a pizza party at the hotel with whatever guests were staying that night. I still like that idea actually. LOL.

We're having a rehearsal at our venue for an hour then we're having dinner together as a family thats it though.

We didn't. First, it isn't something very usual here in Qc city to do one. Second, our rehersal was the tuesday morning before the wedding, really not the best time to have a casual get together. Third, I didn't have any spare time the few days before the wedding so I don't know how I could have manage to have a dinner on top of everything else. Fourth, I really wanted to relax & spend the day before the wedding only with my BM and fifth, we had a newlywed brunch following the wedding so we figured that spending saturday and sunday with our guests would be enough (even though we really love them :) )!

We decided not to have one. His aunt offered to throw one but it she wanted to do a spaghetti dinner at someones house that lives near her and I couldnt ask my out of town guests (all my family and some bridal party) to then drive another hour from the hotel for this. Also people were coming in on Saturday vs Friday and FI and I didnt plan to be together on Saturday.  Plus we would wind up paying for it and we didnt want the extra expense!

We didn't plan a rehearsal dinner, but after "the rehearsal" everyone was hungry and we agreed to go to the same restaurant - dutch. It worked out really well - the waitress was terrific separating all the bills with no hassle. We had a great time.

@Elise - if you are going to have one, pizza is the way to go! Good and cheap! The way everyone was getting on my nerves they would have had some Little Ceaser five dollar hot and ready's! Hee hee!

That sounds like heaven alyxzimms! That wouldn't have went down well with some of my wedding party! They would have been like you being cheap! Why do we have to pay for our own stuff! Lol.

We had a rehearsal and dinner. The venue was a country/yacht club so they served wine before and during the rehearsal, and then we had the dinner in the room that me and the girls got ready in. It was nice to sit with our friends from out of town, havea GREAT DINNER (PRIME RIB! YUM!) and chat!

I really lucked out the church is doing our rehearsal dinner for us.
