DIY Headboard?

Has anyone here made a headboard?  I'm just wondering how difficult it is.  I figure just get a piece of MDF and I can see if I can get my friend to make it into whatever shape I want then foam and fabric?  I'm sure I can find instructions online to do the tufted look.  I definitely don't want to spend $300.00+ on a headboard. :/

Right now we have a queen bed with head/foot board but we are upgrading to a king and will just be buying a metal frame.

Do you ladies think this is a relatively easy DIY?

I plan on doing this in my daughter's bedroom... just haven't gotten around to it.  Here's a link with instructions... http://www.projectwedding.com/post/list/diy-tufted-headboard

I made one last year.  I thought it was pretty easy!  I didn't do a cutout (you would need a jigsaw).  But another pair of hands is a must when assembling.

We did a simple one in my stepson's room. No curves or button tufting, but I loved how it turned out! It was fairly easy, too. There are a TON of tutorials in the DIY blogs or on Pinterest for doing fancier ones. Most of them comment on the level of difficulty, so that should give you a fair idea what you're up against!

I am actually going to be making one in the next couple weeks for our Master Bedroom Makeover.  I read tons of tutorials and seems fairly easy to do. I started to gather all the supplies needed from Joanns with some 50% off coupons.  I will be doing a gray velvet/suede headboard with nailhead trimming. Pics coming soon, wish me luck!
