I signed the contract with Northern Hills Methodist Church in September 2010 for my July 16, 2011. I put in my $300 deposit to reserve the date.
Fast forward to February 4, 2011: So I come back from a leisurely walk
yesterday to check my mail and lo' and behold I see a refund check of my deposit. I called the wedding coordinator to clarify why I have this refund check. She then tells me that she called me two weeks ago and left a message (mind you,
I check my messages several times a day and my phone has never not picked up a missed call). She says that there was "a royal mix up" and something along the lines of there being a convention or conference during that week and I can have my
ceremony the weekend before or after but not that July 16, 2011 weekend. I was in total shock. I don't remember all the details of the conversation because all i was thinking about was how much money I just spent ordering the invitations which
has the church name and address on it. I was in tears! I didn't know what to do or say and didn't want to cuss out an elderly woman from a church, lol! So I just said, ok. To which she replied "i'm sorry". And that's it!
So now, 5 months
before my wedding and I have no ceremony site. My fiance called the lady about compensating us for the cost of the invitations to which her answer is that it's not in the contract for them to do that. CONTRACT?!? This is just about
common courtesy not a contract! So anyone out there thinking about using this church...DO NOT DO IT!!! I don't know how you can miss something like that and not tell me till 5 months before my wedding. And not even have the decency to
compensate for the cost of invitations. It's upsetting and hurtful. Not sure how to approach this.
If anyone knows of a nice traditional church close to the Dominion, please let me know. Looks like I'm back to square one looking
for a church. I figure it's easier to find a different ceremony site as opposed to rescheduling my florist, reception site, dj, and photographer for a different date. This is a nightmare!
