I am from the Bronx but living in Albany, NY.  I have to say that FI and I get looks from people ALL the time in Albany, not so much in the city.  It is worst when we go to his small hometown of Gloversville, NY.  If we are out dancing "the brothers" lol, have to give him the up and down look.  I don't get it since this is 2009 but people still don't believe interracial couples should be together.  Do you get weird looks too?

I have to say when I was with my ex we didn't really .... but interracial relationships are very common around here .... maybe because I live in a city vs a small town or suburb ...

But when me DH and all 5 kids , one dark haired , one blonde and blue eyed , and 3 bi-racial are all out together we definitely get stared at ... LOL

You would think that people would just get over it already ... but sadly there are still ignorant folks out there

well, we don't get many weird looks or at least I don't notice. but my parents live in a very old fashioned little southern town. shortly after we started dating I was down there visiting my bff since middle school and her parents-they're like my second family. her older brother had recently gotten engaged, but since he's in the military and away most of the time, I hadn't met his new fiance. her Mom said-before I show you the picture, you know that she's chocoalte right? I said, it's okay-mine's spicy hahaha

We don't get any weird looks where we're from b/c our city is very VERY multicultural. BUT whenever we venture out further away from the big city we definitely get looks...sometimes I can literally feel a HOLE burning into the back of my head from all the staring!

Also - this past weekend we went to Seattle Washington and made little stops along the smaller towns and definitely got some stares there too. It always surprises me.

Yes we definately get looks here in little ol' Kansas. Also i hear stuff out of people's mouths that people think it's ok to say, like talking about my people and how they are and stuff. I stop them dead in their tracks.

@Keturah: that is the best attitude by stopping the comments.  sometimes people are so use to saying inappropriate comments that they do not realize it is racist.  so unless a person says, "no .. you can't say that", they really will never know.

We don't get too many looks here in the states, but oh boy.....when we were in Korea over the summer.  Yikes!  I mean, you feel sort of like a celebrity over there, or maybe Micky Mouse...hahaha!  Because everyone looks at you, and sometimes they want to take pictures with you.  That's just being a foreigner....imagine if that foreign girl is with a Korean guy.  It wasn't too bad in Seoul, because there are a lot of foreigners there, more than other places in the country.

But we went to KyungJu (not a very large city) to see this ancient Buddha statue, and I said that I would have dressed a little nicer if I would have known that more people would be looking at us than at the Buddha.  You could even hear children telling their parents in shocked little voices saying "Umma!  There's an American woman with a Korean man!"  I got very used to hearing Migukin, and Weigukin wherever I went. haha!  They mean, American, and foreigner.

Most people were very nice, even if they thought it was a little strange.  One person I met did make me feel bad though...the first thing he said to me was, "I was so surprised.  I can't understand why he would want to date a foreigner."  I just kind of nodded....because I mean, what do you say to that?

Oh yeah, i'm really big on respect and i'm very respectful of others. I don't think you should let your race define who you are and i won't let people judge me based on their own experiences either. Get to know me!
