Our 18 month old Black Lab started having seizures back in December.  Anyone else have a pet that has them?  What do you do for yours?  Our Vet recommended holding off medication until they become more frequent (she has one, once a month). 

I'm really sorry to hear this about your puppy :( Poor little baby. They don't know whats causing it?  Personally I think that's frequent... but I'm not a vet, and my dog doesn't have them... I really hope your baby is okay! Sorry I can't be more helpful!

Hi.  My yorkie has seizures.  They just started about 1 1/2 years ago when she was 3.  The first time we rushed her to the vet and by the time they examined her it was over.  They did a blood work up and put her on IV fluids, but that was about it.  The vet said the only way to maybe figure out what caused it was to do an MRI and some other test that would have cost $3000.  He said that low blood sugar could be causing them.  She's had about 5 seizures and usually just before it happens, she'll start drooling a lot and walking sideways.  If we get to her right away and give her a spoon of honey, it usually stops the seizure before it gets to bad.

The vet also recommended that we not put her on meds because he said sometimes the side effects are worse than the seizures.

We had bloodwork done on her 2nd seizure.  Her's are really mild, in my eyes my aunt had a dog that had violent seizures.  Her pupils start dilating like crazy and she goes fetal position and her whole body tenses up.  They last like less than 2 minutes and then she's out of them and up and running around.  Her bloodwork didnt reveal anything so they think they are epileptic. 

@jackie2011  We are hesitant on the meds for the same reasons.  Our vet also said once they start the meds they are on them for life because if you stop giving them, then it will make them have seizures.

If we don't get her the honey in time, her seizures are like the ones your aunts dog has.  She gets really stiff, flops around and sometimes loses bowel control. 

Oh my gosh!  How scary.  I have no idea what we'd do if Molly's were like that.  FI has a hard time dealing with the way hers are now.  I know we'd medicate her if hers were like that and we had no way to prevent it like you can.  My only worry is, I dont know if Molly has them during the day when we arent home.  We've only seen 4 but she leaves no sign that she's had one so she could be having them more frequent than we know.

Aw!  Molly was picked by my FI.  He's only ever had labs and all of them have had M names.  Our other two dogs are mini dachshunds.  Toby came with his name, I got him at 6 months and he already knew it so I figured why change it and I was able to name Jake.  Jake is actually registered, he is officially Tate's Sweet Lil Sausage. :o)

I know this is an old thread but our boston terrier has recently started having seizures :(

It seems he gets them when he gets really excited, mostly in the car of all places.  This past Saturday was the worst it has been :( He seized for about a minute and when he came out of his trance he didn't know where he was or who we were.  He freaked out and tried to bolt.  Thankfully DH put his leash on him once I took him about the car.  My poor lil boy!

We haven't taken him to the vet because there really isn't anything that you can do...it's just weird it usual happens in the car, the first time I was by myself and thought he was choking - I honestly thought he was dying!  So scary!
