are any of you ladies doing your own flowers?  my aunt has owned a nursery and done weddings before so we were going to do the flowers ourselves and save money...the problem is where to keep them before the wedding.  our plan is to go to the sf flower mart the day before and get them all prepared, but will they keep overnight and til the next evening in water alone?  do you think the hotel would be able to store 5 bouquets in a refrigerator?  maybe we can drink all the liqour in the mini bar and store them in there! haha

My cousin did her own flowers and so am I... her arrangements were fine.  We started doing them the day before and they looked great for the wedding.  I dont think you will have a problem with them but it doesnt hurt to ask if they can store them for you :)

something that a DOC pointed out to me was:  watch your hands!   working with flowers can get messy-  especially if you are working with roses so make sure to be careful or wear gloves. you hate to have scratches or cuts on your hands on your wedding day

as an officiate who does wedding planning for my brides destination style, I run across this issue when I get my wholesale flowers from other islands or the mainland.... I've cleared out the fridge where I live just for my brides flowers. I wonder if you can get one on craigslist for free and post it free again after the wedding... This is if you have a lot of flowers and little space. I would definitely ask the hotel, when I have had more than one wedding in a day the hotels have always accommodated me with the flowers and cake I have for the next wedding...

i am planning on doing my own flowers. my parents have planted 4 huge hydrengea plants a whole year before the wedding so that they can produce hundreds of hydrengeas in time!

dummy me never thought about storing them over night! i wonder if they'll be ok indoors in our ac'd home? and then the next morning survive the trip to our wedding/reception location an hour away? ahhh!

I don't know much about flowers, but I am too planning on doing just the bouquets to save mula. I was told to get a huge bucket of water to have the flowers sit in because if you try to refrigerate some it will put them into shock...IDK

I've done flowers for 2 weddings, and for one we made the bouquet the morning of, and it was beautiful.  For the other wedding, we made the bouquets the day before, left the stems long, and stuck everything in a cooler filled with 1/2 water, 1/2 7-up or sprite.  They looked beautiful the next day!

If you are going to be doing it the days before the wedding, make sure you make the bouquet as tight as possible...use flowers that haven't opened up completely, because they will the next day.  Good luck!  You'll do great and save yourself LOTS of money!

I'm planning to make my own bouquets/bout also.  I'm buying buying and making them the day before.  I've heard it's best to put in the frigde to have that crisp look but by water alone you will do fine as well.

If you are planning to make them the day before or so make sure you don't cut the stems to short.  On the day of that's when you can shorten it.  Hope that helps.

I am doing my own flowers as well. We are buying them in bulk from Sams Club and then making the centerpieces and bouquets the day before the wedding. Definitely get a fridge! I would be worried that the hotel might store them in a place that has a lot of traffic, that would not be good for the flowers. Definitely try to get one free on CL they have everything!!!!!!

I ordered my flowers at proflowers weddings my flowers arrive unopen the thursday before my wedding here are there instructions:

How will my flowers stay fresh if they arrive before my wedding?

ProFlowers ships its flowers directly to you. This means they get to you faster and fresher than flowers typically purchased at a florist or store. Since our flower bouquets get to you faster, they stay fresher longer. To ensure freshness, we also ship the flowers with water.

Please do not place any of your bouquets in a refrigerator. All bouquets should be kept in vases with water for them to drink. Corsages and boutonnieres should be placed in the refrigerator or very cool area as long as they are kept far away from any fruits or vegetables and any blowing vents. Fruits, vegetables and blowing vents can negatively affect the life of the flower. We also reccomend that corsages and boutonnieres have their water tubes that they arrived in re-filled with water before placing them in the refrigerator.
