Okay ladies,
As you know I've had much drama with trying to find a seamstress for a bespoke wedding dress. I've been window shopping as to what else is out there and I think I found something. The problem it is that its a little complicated...

I love this Jenny Yoo BM dress, I like the lace top because its really neat and different. I was thinking about ordering the lace top which will be in ivory lace and wearing it over a plain strapless white dress (longer a-line) instead of the BM dress shown. I have to wear white for FI's uniform, as mentioned in exasperation before. Would the ivory lace over a white dress look strange???

The sash comes with the top so do I go for a "nude" sash or an "ivory" sash? I may change out the sash for something from another shop but those are the two options I'm considering that it comes with.

Thanks for your thoughts, its just something I'm considering in the search and I'm terrible with such choices!

Just to give you an idea of what dresses I was thinking of putting it over, these in snow:

I am not one who likes white and ivory together...but if you see it and think it looks great im sure it will

I think if you are going for the ivory top (which is lovely) I would pair it over an ivory strapless gown. White and ivory, not so much in my opinion but if you love it I'm sure you can pull it off... I also really like the 3rd gown and I think it would be great on it's own. You're going to be beautiful!

I must wear white, actually - hence why the dress needs to be white even if the lace is ivory... My FI is a Naval officer and his uniform is bleach white from head to toe, literally, they wear white shoes. If I wear an ivory dress, that is all ivory, the photos will make my dress look "dirty" when I'm standing next to him.

ditto pp...white will be too bright for the ivory. But if you like the combination go for it and I will go with nude sash.

I'll chime in with: Ivory and white is considered a "fashion don't" : )
and the combo probably won't photograph well together either (it will seem like the lighting was off)
BUT- brown and black is considered a "don't" too and I've seen it....

if you want to so a lace top- maybe a more contrasting, but soft color like rose?

Marc Jacobs brought brown and black into fashion and defied tradition in 2006. Ivory and white are a don't if they are solid top vs bottom which isn't the case here but that's what pp seem to be thinking? My concern is if the lace is showing white through (underneath) the picture from Jenny Yoo shows the bridesmaids dress (the sold strapless) peeps through the lace - the lace swatches seem like the ivory isn't a very strong ivory. Has anyone worn or ordered Jenny Yoo lace things that can verify this? Rose is a thought, but it seems like the options on there are kind of a deep pink, perhaps too strong?

maybe Champagne, the only way for you to know is to try the combo on?
can you visit a bridal shop?

What shade of white? I think you can put white and ivory together. You see it a lot with details on dresses. I think it adds depth and texture to the overall look. I would get color samples for each to see how they go together before making any major decisions. I think they can be complementary if they are in the same tone family.

That's a very good point S2BW - I was starting to think I was losing my mind and doubt myself after pp! I'm probably going to have to borrow your eye and mssg you when I get swatches! :)

theDame - I wish. It would make this easier. We're based in the middle of nowhere (I guess that's what service means, my FI does what McCain & Bush Sr did, although I don't support either of them ;) haha). Its impossible to fly out of here unless you are on a military plane sadly... or I should say its really really difficult.
