Hi Ladies,  I'm wondering if anyone had the same experience as I did dress shopping.  I had totally thought I wanted a ballgown but when I tried them on, I was so disappointed. I felt like they swallowed me up and just didn't compliment me at all. Here are a few pictures from my dress shopping experience at Marina Morrison in San Francisco. These are Larzo, Amsale, Anna Maier Ulla-Maika gowns.  All lovely but not for me.

Sorry you were disappointed, but yes I went through the same thing! I thought I wanted full, princess ballgown, but ended up with this instead

My advice is to head to the next salon and be upfront with the consultant. Ask what SHE thinks would look best on you. They're pretty good at getting you in something that you look awesome in.

I've seen MANY brides on PW who went in wanting one type of gown and then realizing it wasn't for them.  I'd say definitely go with Halsey's recommendation--at the next salon ask the consultant for tips, and you're sure to find some amazing styles.

i was opposite of you and halsey! i wanted the style dress she has, but HATED it on me. not hated it, but it made me feel like i was just wearing a pretty dress. so my consultant brought me a ballgown, and i rolled my eyes the entire time, until i looked in the mirror! i loved it!! so thats what i ended up with :) i LOVe your second picture though! it looks beautiful on you (the upper middle picture). cant wait to see what you end up with!

WOW! You look so beautiful in all of those dresses!!! My favorite is the one on the right. So unique on top and nice and simple on the bottom so as not to detract from the top. I am really nervous that my dream dress won't work for me at all. Im hoping for a ballgown as well, but am a little curvy. As we all know, that can go either way.

Thanks Kelly, that was the dress I thought I wanted but it turns out I like a more simple gown with less beading. It was fun figuring it all out. I'm glad you found your dream gown.

I said I ABSOLUTELY DID NOT WANT A STRAPLESS..... and I ended up with a strapless!!!!!

They look and feel so different on than you imagine... go with what fits, is comfortable and that you look in the mirror and say, "I look Great!"

PS... my one regret though is I didn't try on absolutely every dress I could find... it was my one moment to be the bride trying on dresses and I stopped after I fell in love with dress # 4... although I LOVED my dress.... I just wish I would have tried on everything to be certain.... so my advice is just go out, have fun and try them all on..... I secretly want to go out and "pretend" to be a bride again just to try on dresses, sad, I know :(

I too, hands down, went in looking for a ball gown.  My Hubby treated me like a princess and now I am his Queen, so I wanted to look the part! I had the same experience. I hated how I looked in the ball gowns, number one because I am so sure and number two many of them made me look like one of the crocheted doll toilet tissue toppers. Lmbao!  I absolutely knew I didn't want lace, bows or a whole lot of embellishing and I also knew I was going strapless. So that helped immensely in narrowing gown my choices and this is what I ended up with!I too hands down photo 3378589-1
