We're not exactly having a destination wedding, but we're having it at home either.  We live in the California Central Valley, but we're having our wedding in Souther Oregon.  FI's mother and family live there and the setting is so beautiful there.  It helps us to cut back on costs too because it's cheaper and less people will likely be able to make the trip up there.

i am having a home town wedding and i that is what i prefer, then again we are getting married in Newport Rhode Island which is the #2 destination wedding spot in the US :)

Oh man, it's sad to see I wrote on this thread 6 months ago and I still have over 9 months until the wedding!!  Argh....

In order for me to have a hometown wedding it has to be a DW. We (along with all of FI's friends and family, and many of my friends) live in Chicago. But the wedding will be in my hometown in Washington state so for all of the Chicago people it's a DW. Best of both worlds!!!!

I really really wanted a small DW in Key West. 50 close friends and family and make it into a family vacation where we all spent time getting to know each other over margaritas at the pool, you know?

But then FI expressed his wanting his entire family to be there and how not everyone would be able to afford a vacation to KW. One of his cousins (who is only two years older than him) got married and it was an "adult only" wedding. None of FI's generation was invited, not even his brother who was a year OLDER than the bride! Suffice to say he resented it and wanted to be the first in his family to have a "real" wedding with the whole family.

I love his family, don't get me wrong, they are awesome, my sister is jealous of my future in-laws compared to hers. But his father is the oldest of 6 and they each had 2-4 children. That's a LOT of family!

We're still sort of having a DW. Our wedding isn't in either of our hometowns. (I'm from Long Island, he's from New Hampshire and we're having the wedding in NY's capital region.) Everyone still needs to travel but it was familiar ground equal distance from both of our families and it's the city where we went to college and met. I'm happy with our decision and even happier that we're honeymooning in Key West for a week!

But I'm really excited bc my MOH is having a DW eight months after ours, which means that we can enjoy two totally different experiences together... plus no one can really compare our big days! (Well, I guess they could if they wanted to, but that would be extra lame)

I'm doing a DW. I've always wanted a very intimate and small wedding. I've always envisioned like a simple dinner party with my nearest and dearest, ya know? Plus, it's cheaper than anything we'd get in the U.S. And our money goes a looooong way in terms of quality by having a DW in Mexico. I like nice things, but I don't like to pay nice-things money, lol. A DW seemed the best way to have the wedding of my dreams and not compromise my taste and budget.

Also, w/ a hometown wedding, the guest list would be enormous and not everyone you invite even knows your fiance's name or has good feelings toward your relationship. I'm familiar w/ people coming to weddings only so they can criticize. I'm not about that. Weddings are personal affairs, not entertainment for the masses. I think I felt my hand would be forced more to do what I don't want if I had a hometown wedding. This way, I can have what I want, come back and celebrate w/ those who couldn't afford it and relive the memories.

W/ all things, you have to do what's best for you!
