Estimate expenses for delivery for FSA?

I went to see the billing agent yesterday and she gave me an estimate of my out of pocket expense for delivery only.  Was wondering what other expenses I should be considering.  I have to submit my flex spending amount and I don't really want to be under but I also don't want to put in too much or else I lose it.  So far, I can only think of delivery and possibly circumcision for the baby.  What else should I be considering?

Ew, I haven't even thought about this yet.  I'm in such avoidance it's ridiculous.

I would avoid it too but the window has opened at work to update our health benefits.  I know you can change it when a life changing event occurs such as birth but I'm not sure about FSA since that is basically deducted from your 2013 paychecks.

I would verify that the baby is included in your estimated cost...when I had my son he had is own deductible so that was an extra $2000 I wasn't planning on.

Circ should run about $300?  It was cheaper to have ours done at my OB office and not the hospital.  Do you have any copays for u/s?  Also, see what your insurance pays for any high risk testing - I had twice weekly NST and once a week Biophysical u/s that was not covered unless I met my deductible (which since I was due Feb 2012 and had the tests start in Dec 2011 I did not) it was about $200 a week, every week starting at 33 weeks.  I had all these tests because I had GD and chronic hypertension.

Sorry that this is such a rambling answer :)

Not rambling at all, very helpful!  I have to take the glucose test again in a few weeks so we'll see if I have GD.  And I will double check that baby is included.  I have pretty good insurance that covers 90% after deductible so I was quoted only $650 for delivery.   But I am on the borderline for GD and $200 a week is a lot.  I think the max for FSA is $2,500 and its sounding like I should max out.

A friend of mine also mentioned that getting a private room at the hospital is about $900 which is also covered by FSA.  Did you got private or semi private?  I'm wondering if its worth it.  Then again, if I have all these other expenses, I may not even have enough flex spending to splurge on a private room...

We maxed it out to $2,500.  My quote was around $900...but that's just for the birth (if they don't do a c-section).  Also, I'm thinking a good 6 months of doctor visits for DS or DD, that will more than reach the limit.  Plus all of our routine stuff and my husband.

@DMN - since I had both I think that is why I had to go twice a week and have 3 tests but check with your insurance to see and ask your dr if he thinks that you will need any tests towards the end.  I know at some point most get a NST just to make sure if the baby is tolerating everything ok - especially if you are overdo.  I would def reco a private room!!!!  There are some many people (nurses / visitors / drs) coming in and out that a private room is noce once they all leave!

@kblove - Also check with your insurance all my son's well visits are free, I only the co-pay of he is sick.  And if you reach your deductible you shouldn't have a copayment at all.

That is one of the best things having a baby in Jan a whole year with your deductiable met!

If it were me, I would max it out to be safe.  My sister had to have unexpected c-section with her first, which was extra and often times anesthesiologists bill separately separately b/c they are often independent contractors. You are also able to use flex spending acct money for things like glasses/contacts/contact solution/prescriptions etc. so I am sure you will be able to find ways to use it.

ETA: Also good on vitamins (like prenatal ones if you stay on them) and breast pumps if you need one.

I would definitely max it out too. Especially since you can use it for things like breast pumps. Our FSA also lets you use it for daycare (so weird as it doesn't let us buy aspirin.. but whatever) and things like chiropractor and lactation consultants which our insurance doesn't cover.

Yep, I maxed it out thanks to your suggestions.
