Hey everyone,
So we're getting married away from home (Chicago & New York) because we're military. The florists around here seem to have just terrible taste and fed-ex-ing flowers in is turning out to cost quite a bit.

Does anyone have opinions on artificial flowers or paper flowers or other options? Has anyone ever seen this?

I went to a weddng that had miniml flowers, but the bridesmaids bouquets were fake. To be honest, I didn't even realize until the reception. The bride had a real bouquet, which I think really made the difference. There are some gret silk flowrs out there that look very real. If you go this route I would try to make sure that you get quality, guests will really never know then

Have you thought about flower alternative? I've seen some brides who wll do tons of candles or fruit instead. Or the maids carried a small lantern instead.

I was never a fan of fake flowers. What do you do with them afterwards?Where are you getting married? You can always do the flowers yourselves instead of hiring a florist. Is there a wholesale flower market or maybe you can check out the local grocery stores?

Martha Stewart ships flowers. For the bouquets, you could get a bunch of one type of flower, stick a ribbon around each one and call it a day!

You could also check out a Whole Foods, Trader Joes or even a garden nursery for flowers to use.

I also suggest doing non-flower centerpieces like candles, clusters of fruit in bowls or even a plant (an orchid, perhaps?). Just make sure you have a coordinator or someone who isn't invloved in the wedding to set them up on your wedding day. Congratulations!

This site does a great job on faux flowers. I actually ordered a bouquet from them to see the quality for myself. It looked great. Check them out.

I told MsGlamour about this artist a while ago because she has an allergy to flowers. Her name is Jude Miller. She creates handmade paper flowers that have to be seen to be believed...I don't know how much they coast, but it never hurts to ask. You could even use a few for the centerpiece if you like. They may be expensive though...Have you looked into non flower centerpieces? Like Cristal Trees?

i've seen some great silk flowers here and there online... not sure if there's anything prohibiting in your cultures though. when i mentioned sprinkling fake flowers to a potential DOC, she said that chinese people don't like using fakes. superstition or whatever, i'm not sure. so for people like my FMIL, who's somewhat traditional, using silk flowers would be a major no no.

A friend of mine had tall silk flower centerpieces and they looked really nice. I think it helps that they were tall and over our heads so we weren't looking at them all the time.
